Most of you guys have probably seen this news and video (http://www.firstcoastnews.com/video/player320.aspx?aid=44697&bw=)out of California. #Looks like a dozen cops have surrounded an SUV and something happens that makes all of them empty their gun into the vehicle. #It sounds like a 12 inch strip of Black Cats blowing up.

The way these guys positioned themselves I'm amazed 3 or 4 of them aren't dead from friendly fire. #And I CAN'T WAIT to hear their chief of police explain how the driver came out of that SUV turned collander with only a minor wound.

If I were one of those cops I'd start hanging out behind the donut shop where nobody could see me. Because I know how hard I laughed when I saw the video.

I believe the statement by the Sheriff was that some of them were not shooting at the suspect but at the tires. Of course if you watch the video closely you will se the front tires go flat with the last couple of shots as the SUV stops into the rear of one of the patrol cars. Either way, whether shooting at the suspect or the tires there sure were a lot of stray shots flying around just waiting to bounce around through citizens' homes.

I think Ron White said it best during the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. I don't know the exact quotation, but something along the lines of:

Quote[/b] ]People say video games are creating violence, like the kid in California. He got mad at some people at school, shot 6 bullets, hit 7 people. Later that week, the CA Highway Patrol shot 37 bullets, and didn't hit the freaking suburban. I say bring my son's X-Box down there and give it to the CA police.

I rad some tests that were done quite a few years ago about how hard it was to shoot through a windshield. The glass is made to resist punctures to start with and combined with the angle of the glass most shots skip right off to where ever..

Glad no police officers were killed but when I first saw the video I was concerned about the cross fire as well.

It did sound like pop corn there for a bit.

Couple of years ago there was another incident in which cops or fed agents, I can't recall, peppered a van or SUV with dozens of shots. No one was hurt.

I wonder what Albuquerque police do differently. When I hear of a shooting in that city, someone (neither cop nor bystander) is usually dead. Of course, then all the "folks" come out of the woodwork and profess, "Ah, he was a good boy. Didn't deserve to die. All he did was kidnap a girl or two, rape them, run from the cops, sell drugs, rob a Seven-Eleven, ram a police car. He's a good boy." I'm glad APD officers manage their shootings a bit better! I watched the news of that KALIF shooting and I, too, though, wow, what a crossfire. It appears no cops were shot, though some bullets did wind up in a home. You'd think the LA cops get enough practice shooting. Guess not.

Maybe they should switch to shotguns and buckshot. I admit, a shooting under pressure is difficult to handle, but you'd think at least one of those cops could have hit the target, out of over 70 rounds fired.

Yep, that's the place to have a shootout, which is what the news calls it. But it wasn't really a "shootout!" The bad guy didn't even have a gun.

They better send all those dudes to mandatory range practice.

Under California law, if that cop shot by another one were to die, the vehicle's driver might be charged with murder. IIRC, one criminal has already been convicted of murdering a policemen who fell off an overpass he was watching a traffic chase from.

Hi guys,

Looks like The A Team! With the whole lot firing point blank using M-16s on full auto with that famous Hollywood "infinite clip" ammo somehow they never hit a thing.

"I rad some tests that were done quite a few years ago about how hard it was to shoot through a windshield. The glass is made to resist punctures to start with and combined with the angle of the glass most shots skip right off to where ever."

That's one reason why the police dumped those S&W .38 Special pea shooters for more effective sidearms. If you watch the reinactment the police filmed of the Bonny and Clyde ambush you won't see a pistol in the lot, hunting rifles, Tommy guns and a couple of Barrow's favorite, the B.A.R. took them out. No, they didn't have Glock 9mm automatics back then and 1917 .45 ACPs were not approved for police use.

Then again even those "hick farmers" who backed them up could shoot straight and they never practiced at a range either. When I used to shoot the only time I ever missed the target was testing a Chinese replica of a German Luger made back in 1917 and had seen continuous use since. Between a worn barrel and ammo that was just barely a fraction of a milimeter off I have no idea where the bullets went. Maybe they're standard issue in California.

The .45 is a Model 1911, not 1917 - I won't waste further comment on all the other misinformation in your post!
