On 1 May 2005, Asian Media Watch (AMW) denounced what it called the racist propaganda broadcast by the hosts of radio station New Jersey 101.5 FM, and their attempts to undermine the rights of Asian Pacific Americans to participate in the democratic and political process of the nation.

On April 20, 2005, said AMW, radio hosts Craig Carton and Ray Rossi made racially derogatory statements towards the Asian Pacific American community and towards an Asian Pacific American candidate for public office. AMW said it allied itself with all those working to hold the employees and management of New Jersey 101.5 FM, and its parent company Millennium Radio Group, fully accountable for promoting bigotry and hatred.
....
At the end of 2002, staff and students and the University of Oregon called for the University to end its affiliation with KUGN-AM. which pays the University $1 million a year for the exclusive right to broadcast football and basketball games. But KUGN also carried a syndicated programme called The Savage Nation, described by its critics as offensive and racist. Michael Savage is founder of The Paul Revere Society, which claims to stand for “the reassertion of our borders, our language, and our culture.” However, the University’s contract was not with KUGN itself, but with ESPN Sports and a network of 20 stations, of which KUGN was one. The State Board of Higher Education specifically prohibits the basing of purchasing or contract decisions on politics. When the contract was originally signed, KUGN didn't carry shows such as The Savage Nation.
....
However, at least some of the displaced organisations are now hiring airtime on other private shortwave stations, examples being WWRB in McCaysville, Georgia and WBCQ ("The Planet") in Maine. WBCQ serves North America, the Caribbean and most of South America and is owned by Allan H. Weiner, who gained notoriety as the owner of various unlicensed stations before finally getting a permit to broadcast legally on shortwave.

Quite an interesting article (http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/features/media/dossiers/hateradioamerica.html). I thought these sorts of programs were on the wane, but evidently they're more popular than ever.

I listen to AM radio 99% of the time. I have a long commute, so I need something entertaining. We used to have a comedy radio station here that was really great. Apparently, I was the only one who thought so as it was purchased by CNN.

CNN is too cheap to put it's own RADIO content on the air. I hear them say things like "as you can see on your screen" and "watch the catch made by". If CNN is not going to supply a tv screen for my car, they should at least do specific programs designed for radio.

http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif As for TV:
I no longer watch, FOX-CNN-MSNBC and all others including my locals here in Philadelphia 3-6-& 10, and 10 of which was the last hold out for "crawling text" huge LOGOS and other obnoxious garbage after all these years are done.

None of these station owners care at all about how annoying this nonsense is, so I FIRED them ALL.

I switched to AM radio for a while, but then the onslaught of ads has wiped out my last nerve. So I use the AM to merley to wake up in the morning when the radio/alarm goes "On" (not off)

My solution: I now get just about all of my news right off the internet, and if I have the TV on at all it's for old movies,(TCM) or DVD's

It seems ALL of the media has abused it's listener's and TV it's viewers to a point of "Media Burn Out", that would be ME.

So the answer to the question posed in the thread is, "no", but im including all of the media, until they stop this "vertigo causing" "eyeball crossing" distracting video and audio abuse.

Hahaha, and I as the consumer finally have the last laugh........"I Fired the Media" and am HaHa'ing all the way thru the internet and chat boards.

Now, stay tuned for more, following these words from our sponser's, their friends and relatives.

I figure if something really profound occurs, I will observe the National Guard and other military related people along with law enforcement, driving up and down my street yelling "We have breaking News" but first a message from........................".

As for wanting our borders locked down and other such measures to protect our citzens, Im all for it. I have no beef with anyone from anywhere if they are here permanantly LIVING in the USA, as long as they are a citizen. But don't use our services living here as a permanant resident without being one.

Where's "SY" when ya need him?

I listen to Savage Nation quite a bit as it is on during the afternoon drive. Dr. Savage does get on a bit of a rant now and then.
Of course, if anyone doesn't like what is said on that show it is then labeled racist according to the common leftist tactics playbook.
I don't know about the other programs as I haven't heard them.

I used to listen to a.m. radio all the time when I was on the road most of the time, and I split the time between Limbaugh and the Peoples Radio Network.

In recent years, though, it's really gotten to be too much.

I applaud the decision to pull Savage. I can't say I've ever heard anything overtly racist, but his rant is 99% pure hate speech. He does sprinkle a tiny little bit of historical fact in with a lot of fanatical baloney. I've heard his rant about how the Nazis were leftists many times. He's right there - they were leftists. They were allied with the right wing fascists in Italy, and were enemies of the communists, but their propaganda was straight from Marx! Then, he somehow equates these leftist Nazis with today's liberals and the evil, perverted Democrats. The man is a nutcase and he brags about his relationship with the Israeli Mossad, which should raise big red flags in anybody's mind about who he's really working for.

But, some of our local yokels aren't far behind. I was listening to "Minnesota's Mr. Right" one evening when he expounded that all immigrants should be forced to speak English and convert to Christiantity when they come here.
Nice, real, nice. But he's a liberal compared to some of the people who called into his show. And this is a blue state.

Indeed, the talk format seems to be replacing the music format in many markets. Here, all but one of our 18 area stations are owned by two right-leaning mega-corporations, so there'll be no Air America for balance around here, even if the stars come from Minnesota.

Don't you just love how you can watch the crawling test for a minute or two and then look at the main screen and it looks like the guy is moving the opposite way of the text. To clarify, the main screen is the postage stamp sized part with the live person on it.

Even worse is when you catch the end of a statement on the crawler and as it finally comes back around they cut to commercial and you miss it again.

Of course the absolute worst is the number of doubled words and spelling errors you find in the crawler. I think the crawlers are handled by the company daycare for the amusment of the kids.

Basically, yes, I listen to AM radio while driving which is the extent of my normal broadcast listening of any kind.

Why would anyone hate AM? It's just a form of modulation. You might as well hate gravity!

Hate listening to AM radio? Of course not!

The guys that hang out on 3880 KHz, 3885 KHz, and 7290 KHz tend to be pretty nice fellows.

Infinity Broadcasting in their "infinite" wisdom, sold off the second oldest AM station in the SF Area (KFRC-610) to of all people Family Radio (yuk!). It went from an oldies format to strictly religion...Just what we need...another religious station preaching to the Bay Area heathens.

KFRC was king of Top 40 in the 60's and 70's in the SF Bay Area. They survived the onslaught of FM AOR stations well into the '80's. Their morning man "Dr. Donald D. Rose" was legendary. Unfortunately, Dr. Don just died about a month or two ago. Some of you may remember traffic reporter Jane Dornacker ("hit the water, hit the water") a pioneer in funny traffic reporting. She got her start at KFRC. "Let's see what's happening on the S&M (San Mateo) Bridge" Funny stuff.

What's funny is the Oakland A's are broadcast on KFRC. I haven't listened to a game since the format change, so the airchecks should be interesting.

Unfortunately, KFRC has now gone the way of another legendary SF station, KSFO, which is now a cesspool of talk radio...

Sigh...

We also hang out near 1885, 1945, 1980-85 kc/s. On 75, occasionally some of the gang ventures outside the "window" down towards 3825-3830.

As far as broadcast radio, I once listened mostly to shortwave, but since the mid 70's I mainly listen to NPR and some of the independent listener-supported stations on the low end of the dial (but not the Bible-beaters). In our area there is an NPR FM station and also a very rare NPR AM station on 1430 running 10 kw.

Never could stand the advertising on commercial AM or FM stations.

I listen to some of the stuff on WBCQ. They broadcast a wide variety of political/religious/cultural viewpoints (in other words, whoever is willing to buy air time). I find the bizarre stuff interesting to listen to.

Don't listen to much swbc anymore, since the "good ones" like BBC, Radio France International and Radio Canada went off the air or severely curtailed their broadcast schedules to North America. Like the bottom end of the FM band, the short waves are getting saturated with Bible-beaters.

I spent my early years listening to both of these stations. I remember KSFO broadcasting some of the old radio shows. Now you can't find anybody airing them and I have had to take to building my own collection on CD.

I guess nothing stays forever.

"When the Giants come to town..

It's Bye Bye Baby..

Everytime the chips are down...

It's Bye Bye Baby...

Listen to the broadcast on KSFO..

Cheer for the batter and go team go!

With the San Francisco Giants!

It's Bye, Bye Baby"

"This is a production of the Golden West Radio Network".

KSFO actually had that song written for them in the early '60's.

Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons announcing and later when Hodges died, Bill Thompson...

Whew...

I was never a big Giants fan, but I did listen Giants games when Monte Moore and the A's weren't on the air.

Never could get used to Lon Simmons as an A's broadcaster after he started there in 1980. Whenever he said "You can tell it goodbye", I always thought of him announcing a Mays or McCovey homer.

KSFO is now talk radio dreck, and KFRC (pending callsign change) has now entered religious wasteland...

Calling conservative radio programs "hate radio" is the same whiny line lefties have used for a loooong time. Yaawwwnnn...

Before Rush, and those like him, we had to listen to that moe-ron Larry King, who has a heavy handed liberal bias. Hey, he's entitled to his views. So are those of a contrary opinion.

A little BALANCE never hurt anyone, so don't cry.

Out.

I listen to AM broadcast band everyday.
I don't mind having Dr. Savage on the air at all. The fact is that there are many people who listen to both extremes (Conservative and Liberal) and they must be doing well in the ratings, as they are still on the air.
A a comic once said (and I can't remember his name), "That's why the radio has two knobs. If you don't like what you hear, once changes the station, the other turns it off!"

I used to listen to broadcast AM, most of our local stations still to the nightime power reduction by going from 50kw to 100mw which is quite a pain considering the quality of OEM radios AM side, so I have opted to do the XM thing and can actually listem to what I want to without fading and having to station hop. Yes I went with the big boys instead of the little dog.......... both are losing money hand over fist, but Sirius is by far the runt of the litter.

What's kinda cool is these HF ham rigs with the "DC to light" receivers. I had no idea that there was an "extended" AM band until I tuned down that way one day. And they're great for BC DX'ing.

The AM broadcast band has gradually moved from 1500 KHz to 1600 KHz and now even above 1700 KHz in the United States.

If you listen at the high end you can often find low powered AM stations giving off all sorts of recorded information. There are two at the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport. One transmits arrival flight information and the other transmits departing flight information. I can receive these using my 160 meter antennas and I live over 20 miles from the airport. Using a "normal" type of broadcast AM receiver (like in my automobile) I have to be within about 7 miles to start getting a good enough signal to copy.
