View Full Version : PIRATE STATION HC2DX
The DX Community in Brazil finally got an official answer from Anatel (Telecom Entity in Brazil) , cancelling the license for PY3ZM. This gentlement is signing as QSL manager of several Dx Stations, but he is not licensed in Brazil anymore. He is not authorized to use PY3ZM calsign or even to act as a QSL manager of any Dx Station.
Please advise the Dx Community about this announcement.
I have the Official letter and I can send it to QRZ.COM>
Thanks in advance http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I do not know PY3ZM or HC2DX, never heard about him. Anyway, if he does not have a licence it is HIS problem, not OUR problem. Finally, anyone can be QSL manager of a station, even a non-ham. No authorization from anyone is required.

Tony,
HC2DX made it OUR problem. He claimed to be on a RARE IOTA, (among other locations) operated with several callsigns, and took 100's of HAMs for Green Stamps and IRCs.
By having QSL manager, which turned out to be the same person, it made him look legit.
By posting his callsign on sites such as ours (QRZ) and Buckmaster with QSL info, many HAMS sent him money he asked for postage.
Yes, This is OUR problem and we thank the Brazilian Amateur Authorities and others who came forward to uncover his scam.

Well, I did receive a card for HC2DX via PY3ZM (direct) for a 20 meter CW QSO on Dec 2, 2001.
I'm looking at the QSL card right now and see nothing on it referencing any island. When I worked HC2DX, he never stated that he was on an island either.

No matter where he or his QSL card claims the contact was made from, this person is NOT licensed and if you happen to need the country, island, location... for any awards or confirmations, it will not be valid. You now have a Pirate QSL in your collection.
The Brazilian Govt has contacted us and this individual is under investigation for fraud. #We have also received more complaints about this person asking for monies for QSLs than we can count.
Fraud on the air is a problem licensed Amateurs have to be aware of.

I also worked HC2DX on 3/22/02 0615 UTC. #Fortunately I didn't need Ecuador and I am not chasing IOTA either. #Might it be a good idea for QRZ to remove or modify the HC2DX entry here so that noone else gets confused or sends money? #

To N4DIA
From what I read, I understand that this guy has operated as HC2DX giving PY3ZM as manager, and not the opposite. Then, the licence which counts is that of Ecuador, not the Brasilian one. When you say he is not licensed, it is unclear to me whether you refer to both the HC and PY licences or just to the Brasilian one.
To conclude, it seems to me that getting an official declaration that a QSL manager is unlicensed cannot help much. Conversely, if there is enough evidence that this guy did not behave correctly, you did well to remove his calls from the QRZ database, in the interest of the ham community.

Both Callsigns were removed when this information was made available to us.

Well,
I am hearing Dude right now! HC2DX working the contest on 28.455.
He may be a pirate (so I hear), but he's serious.

This guy has been stealing from hams for years. He got me as his supposed 3X0DEX DXpedition in 1993 with greenstamp to his home call HH2HM via France. He'll show up again with another call. He is a parasite that makes his living off of DXers.

hey guys, if they were allowed by arrl to use eQSL no one would have been ripped off, and they would have received qsl cards in minutes..If a station has no online facilities then natchurally he would use postal for qsl..
lets all get together and pressure arrl to get in step with 21st century..

I agree with Fred WA1ROI. Lets get into the 21st century. If we all put the pressure on the ARRL, maybe they will wake up. Eqsl is the way to go.

I've got to go along with Fred and n1fpj on this one. EQSL is the way to go.
I heard him, just did not work him. The call stuck in my memory.
