I have found through trial and ....... the ATAS 120 to be very fixable with mine the antenna stopped moveing would not tune at all so I found that 8 volts positive to the center pin makes it go down and 12 volts positive to the center pin makes it go up which it didn't. I found a weak solder joint at the input to the circuit board first thourly clean off the old solder then use a good grade of solder when re doing the joint. To gain access to the circuit board slide the lower rubber ring up just far enough to expose the three screws after removeing the screws very carfully pull the base free unplug the motor wires and inspect the input with a good magnifier.
the next weak spot is the guide it is a cheap plastic collar that is threaded into the top coil assy and is internaly threaded to run up and down the long threaded shaft.Caution when removeing the top collar as there are six (6) ball bearings which will roll to who knows were? by completely removeing the two allen cap screws that hold the whip in.The top sleve will slide up and off. This may help you fix yours. any question e-mail kd4ipn@att.net I hope this will help some one eslse along the way
