Americans will need passports to re-enter the United States from Canada, part of a tightening of U.S. border controls in an era of terrorist threat, according to administration officials.
Canadians, who have been the only foreigners allowed to enter the United States with just a driving licence, will also have to present a passport to enter the United States.

What about Military deserters crossing the border going north?? Having to present a pass port to get out sure would be an inconvience. Presenting one to get back is good, less chance of some future Democratic President pardoning them for deserting. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Just what we need, the "Quebec problem." Of course, that would solve the Canadian "No Code" issue.

Bill
we could annex all except Quebec... even they don't want to be part of Canada.

I can't wait till there is a head tax/processing fee to cross the border, then it will go up $10 every 2 years.

Just seal it. See how long they last.
I insert (edit):
We could do the same down south. Go back to good old America First, dig up Lindy and carry him around.

I think it is the other way around. #Most Americans and Canadians are alike. #Quebec.................well, they are different. #It kind of reminds me of why I don't buy French wines.

What DO you buy?
BTW: Quebec is NOT France.

This is great. It will definitely have a serious impact on the millions of Canadian illegal aliens coming into the United States and taking jobs, converting our language to theirs, and creating a culture of gangs and drugs. I'm all for it!

What about all those bars that straddle the border. The one's that one end closes at a certain time so everyone goes across the border (line painted on the floor) and keep on drinking.

thats mainly the result of blue laws, which should be unconstitutional (at least I think so) because they were put there by the influence of the church(s) (I'll use the (s) there because a FEW aren't facist southern babtist that want to make your decisions for you here in Sc) There is a seperation of church and state, but I don't understand, why can the church mess around in politics with the state but not vise versa? I say if they want to play TAX 'EM imagine the worth in property taxes of these HUGE brick babtist brothels around here...(I don't know if many of you have ever seen them but we joke that "if it big and brick, its gotta be babtist"

They would just "go around" to the south border - where the current president invites them in.

Upon closer review of the headlines today, I see that it does also include Mexico. The story says nothing about illegals however or how they will deal with forged documents or if they even care.

This is just another gummint scam to raise $$$$$. First the GPO (gummint printing office) will need zillions of $$$$ to print all the new passport books. Second, last time I checked the fee for a new passport was $85.00 and is probably higher now, so the gummint is going to make a bundle on all the passport applications. Third, somebody will come up with a microchip implant that will have your entire life history on it and the gummint will require everyone to get one. I renewed my passport last year. It cost $55 plus the little Kinko pix ($5). They even sent me the old one back with a big hole punched in it.

And this is somehow less odious than the idea of a national I.D. card exactly how? I guess if you're an upstanding American and have no intention of ever leaving the country, you don't need a passport, so in times of paranoia, anybody with a passport could be seen as a potential border jumper.
Sweet... Guess I better see when mine is up for renewal again. I was planning to go fishing in Manitoba next month.
Now it costs you $97 to get a passport.....
Processing fee $55
Security Surcharge $12
payable to the Department of State
Plus you gotta pay for pictures $10 or so, plus
Application execution fee $30
payable to the acceptance facility you use
How about that?

I can see it now: Some poor guy without a passport tries to come home to the USA and is not allowed to -- and the Canadians won't let him stay. Has to be suspended on ropes so he won't touch the ground. Hah!
A few years ago ago there was a guy in NH who racked up $10,000 in fines for illegally coming home. Seems there is a $5,000 fine for reentering the US when no Border Agents are present -- and the local crossing is closed on Sundays, when folks go visiting.

I think it's a great idea for our southern border. Lord only knows how many people make a voice declaration of US citizenship and pass back and forth freely. US citizens and those with proper documentation from other countries will be free to pass.
What took so long?

I guess that you will need a passport to jump across the border, find the nearest drug store, to stock up on "222's" and Tylenol3 (over the counter!!)
Think of the people that live in Point Roberts WA...
