I was listening to a QSO this morning before school on 20. Kenwood has unvelied a new HT, the TH-F8a. The HT on the outside looks just like the TH-F6a (googled it). But, it features over 800 memories and the addition of 6m FM transmit. I wonder what the price will be? Around $350 or so?

Wotinell can you do with 800 memories? Nobody could possibly keep track of such a thing.

Like a squirrel burying his nuts.

Or your nuts.

Whatever.

The whole idea is nuts.

How many repeaters could one possibly want to kerchunk in one lifetime?

I do think the HT's with 800 or 100 memories or whatever are a little much. I only use about 250 on my vx-7r, with TV audio freqs.

I am astounded I can somehow get along with only 20 memories on 2 meters. Even more astounded that 4 of them are empty.

My c188a has only 40 memories, and I am only using 4 right now.

All those memories . . . I have a 32 channel rig in my pickup that I don't have the means to program. So last time a buddy did it for me, I had trouble coming up with 32 things to put in it. I ended up putting all the county fire and EMS channels (receive only) and the five main NY City FD channels (you can hear them far far away!)

Someday an 800 channel 2m rig will come out though. And that's what's selling those things. They all DO the same thing. It's the bells and whistles that attract buyers. And after the initial novelty wears off nobody uses half of the "features" anyway.

I still wonder how long it will be before we see the first ---

combo 2 meter / frs unit HT

combo 2 meter / cb HT

combo 2 meter / cb mobile unit

combo 2 meter / 440 / cb HT

combo 2 meter / 440 / cb mobile unit

combo 2 meter / 440 / frs mobile unit

only time will tell.

They already have an TH-F7, so the F8 should be right around the corner:
