All that tower for vhf? #I don't quite get it, why not put a HF antenna where the tower would really have some impact??

For VHF / UHF. Yep with VHF / UHF the higher the better. The longer the boom the better the gain.

Should learn something about VHF / UHF communications W8EFA. There's more to ham radio than HF.

he has vhf/uhf privileges , do you have hf privileges ? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

i worked some vhf at field day myself, i was not impressed either ! #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

as a matter of fact, i have probably worked more vhf/uhf over the years than you have !
i also have undoubtedly worked more hf than you have ! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

not all of us ''ofs'' are dedicated to hf only, and unlike some of the hams, we are not limited to the upper spectrum.

as an example, i have the capability of operating on 160 to 70 cm, and i have the privileges to do it !

the tower does look good though !

hopefully i can get mine put up this summer !

what is the altitude where you live? that helps a lot too !

You could add a small beam for 6m and have tremendous results at that height. I got great results with an MFJ 3 element beam at 32 feet.
Congatulations on your tower. AI4EP is SOOOOOOOOOO green with envy! He should just be happy for you.

i would love to have 6 and 10 meters at that height !
i prefer wire antennas for all the lower bands, but using that tower to tie up the center of the wire would be nice too ! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

kww, i just looked at my logbook, i have not been on hf since august, but i get on vhf several times a week ! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Yes, KC0KBH, a really tall skinny one.

I'm betting the human kind would be less expensive tho, at least initially.

it just occurred to me, if you weren't impressed by working hf at field day, why are you so anxious to have the code test gone so you can get on hf ?

My tower is 200 feet above sea level.

2 meter ssb band conditions here in FM17 tonight (Mon 3/7/05)were really bad. I hope they improve during the week.

i never really thought about the altitude at my place, i would guess at about 1400 feet +/- # ! # # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

i will have to look at the topo maps later to find out for sure, but i am certain that my guess is within 100 feet anyway ! (now watch me be way off !)

i have one tower about 45 feet or so, i hope i can get that up this summer.
i have another one that is about 38 feet, but that one needs some work before it can be used.

seeing as i am facing having my left knee replaced, i am afraid i will not get to spend much time at home and be in good enough shape to get any work done this year. #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

i'll sure give it a try though !

what kind of equipment do you have for vhf?
i have a ts60 for 6 meters and an old ts700a and a homebrew amp for 2 meters.
i don't have anything for 440 ssb/cw yet, i am still looking for a setup i like, i'll get there eventually !

0NBW, I have a ICOM 910h for 2 meter ssb and 70 cm ssb. I'm looking at a ICOM 756 to use for 6 meter ssb and maybe HF if I pass code and get access to hf.

But, one step at a time.

work on the code, that will be the be the big incentive to get the hf rig !

i passed the morse test and if i can, there is no excuse for anyone else not to !

i had my 10 year old granddaughter and 8 year old grandson receiving slow speed code back in 2003 !

unfortunately, i could not stick around and teach them the entire code to the point where they could take the test.

i am hoping i can get them back here this summer and then give them enough lessons to be able to get their licences too !

lots of luck with the code !

Yep...once you actually PASS the morse code test, you DO realize that it is not that hard to do ( after all, YOU just passed it ! ) !

But it is far easier to whine & gripe than to study. I use my 12 YEARS ( not days, weeks or months ) of LAZINESS as a personal reference to it.

Plus it appears that here are quite a few that are attempting to show how LAZY they can be by beating my 12 year record.
