http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Does anybody know of a cordless headset circuit ie; transmitter and receiver circuits. I want to be able to listen to my radio without bothering the rest of the family but I do not want to be tied to the set by wires. I have tried that apart from trying to cut the wires and nearly pulling the set of the table it was not very sucessful. I know you can buy them but the cost is prohibitive and the Infra Red type means you have to be in front of the set at all times.
Can any body help. It would help a lot of hams I should think.
Am I the only one with keyboard that can't spell

I picked up a radio type from Ebay or a trading site for under $20, have not hooked it up to my audio feeds yet, but it does work. The receive is tuneable and drifts some. Mine is an RCA.
Put up a want (not WANTED!) ad, check Ebay, Shack, sure you will find one.

Tony, have you looked at any of the low power FM xmiters? They will work with any personal FM radio, will usually work anywhere in the house or yard, and because some are in stereo you can monitor two radios at once (two chanel inputs). Of course maybe only me who is that crazy. And my spelling isn't all that great somtimes either.

To, Mike N9ODM & Tom K8ERV,
Thanks for your replies. I am sorry to take so long in answering but other things were taking first place.
Tom, I can't find any RCA radios over here yet but I will be going to a Radio Rally/Car Boot sale in a couple of weeks I might find something there.
Mike, do you mean PMR (Private Mobile Radio) style transceivers on 446 Mhz ? I have used these to alert me via the vox facility to incoming calls when out in the garden, but to use one to relay music is against the rules.
I am now trying to find circuits to allow me to make my own version of wireless/cordless headsets ie; a small transmitter and the headset plugged into a small (pocket sized) receiver. I think the circuit can be found easily but they must be licence exempt frequencies and low powered. Not everybody would like to listen to my radio.
Bye for now

I'm convinced this keyboard should go for spelling lessons!!

Could a Bluetooth Cellphone kit be hacked together to work? Jabra makes a (A210) adapter to make a non-bluetooth phone use a headset. I had a demo of these two items and liked them. Range was an acceptable 30 feet

You might try a baby monitor.

G7JAV:
I beleive he is reffering to the mini-stations available to any consumer. There all over now for as little as $10 on ebay, sometimes. I recomend looking over a few. They take a standard 3.5mm plug usually. I also think Ramsey sells two kits. Just make sure your power is very low with it. I beleive it's not allowed to be heard outside of your property, and you have to use a supplied antenna, or follow the instructions the kit gives to build your own. Also, make your o na frequency far enough from any commercial station.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for all of your advice, but I am now the proud owner of a FM Cordless headset. I visited an Amateur Radio Car Boot sale on Sunday and hiding in a scruffy box was a Cordless headset. On first look it had a price tag of £25 ($47.46), I thought that's expensive and went for a look around the rest of the stalls, nobody else had a set. I had another look and asked the price £5 ($11.00) was the reply ( the tag for £25 was the original price somewhere else) Will it work I said, maybe he said, I thought a small gamble for £5 was OK. Got home it works fine with approx 30 metres range from base position. The set is made by Commtell and the part No is RF-1000. After posting the first request I came accross all sorts of headsets but mainly in the £50 ($94.91) area.
There was also some unusual ideas most of them are probably illegal.
Thanks for all of you inputs.
Regards,
Tony

Hi All,
RadioShack used to sell a device with a 1/8" stereo plug input which output on a choice of about 4 FM radio channels. It was designed to play CD players into one's car stereo system. I use it with the mobile rig and like the ability to tailor the audio. The range might be good enough for around the house. GL HTH

Sony makes a cordless headset that functions well with any transceiver with a head phone jack on the panel.
Best buy carries 3 different brands, RCA, SONY & Sentry in thelocal store here in Rockford, IL.
I picked up a set made by Sentry several months ago at the local BIG LOTS for under 10 bux and they work quite well.
I picked up a 12 volt power supply for the FM xmtr and some rechargeable batteries for the headset and I have been enjoying ham radio and late night TV without disturbing the rest of the family. The range is only about 50 feet but that is OK because I am not planing on plowing snow while I wear them. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
