Dunno about a 706 replacement, but the IC-F7000 (http://www.icomamerica.com/products/land_mobile/f7000/) is a commercial HF rig that has already been out for a year or so. The rig on that site looks cool tho!

edit: There's a thread on this rig on the HRD forums (http://www.ham-radio.ch/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2145&highlight=) too.

- and still no built-in autotuner?

:-)

- looks cool, but it would be even better in the US$700 range... (guess we'll have to wait for the specs)...

I was just contemplating buying another 706MKIIG (for my boat) but may just wait for the 7000 now.

If they bring this out I may buy the 706 on clearance, if I could get it cheap ($600).

Hope this one has a true noise squelch on FM, not a damned signal squelch like the 706's.

I think it's the only thing I HATE from these radios :-(

Makes sense with the recent advent of the 756 PRO displays, then the IC-7800 displays, only a matter of time to put that eye candy on the mobile units.

I will keep my 756PRO and 706MarkIIG. They will perform for years to come just as well as the new models coming out to appeal to the eyes rather then provide any real new performance.

Unless that add 222 Mhz. I will pass.
