KTUU sure explained more. I read about it in the paper, but it left more questions than answers.
Something about the rescue organization and their radios that delayed response......Hmmmm.....

The local mountain rescue group was testing some new radios. A dispatcher mistook the radio test to mean that they were already on scene, when they had not even been made aware of the situation.

One more reason for stating that "this is a(n) simulation/test/exercise/training drill/whatever" when conducting same at the start of each transmission..

Digging about in the "name search" database I came up with James Wiley, KL7CC.
*IF* this is correct then KUDOS on ya.
That's what ham radio is all about...being there for others.

..if ham radio saves one person's life, then it needs to stick around. Another reason that we should not have BPL..
KL1RK is the guy who took the tumble.
KL7CC is the guy who called 911 after he heard the mayday.
Both are great guys and repersent two ends of the ham spectrum.
KL1RK is a new ham like myself. Got his ticket last year.
KL7CC has been a ham longer than I have been alive.
Guess one thing that this brought out was the fact that all the agencies who responded to this rescue could not communicate with each other. All have different frequencies and such.
Took longer to get it all organized than it did to pull Jessie out of the ravine.
