I played a bit. 101 QSO's for a claimed score of 10425.

Now if I can just figure out where to send the log to...both email addy's listed have bounced.

I also played in the OMISS contest for a few contacts. More to check out my rig than anything else having just gotten it back from Icom Friday afternoon.

I played off and on between chores in the house. 195 QSOs, 57,984 claimed score. Haven't sent the log in yet, got to check for busted QSOs first. Found three so far. Wished I was running more than 50W. Missed quite a few multipliers that I was receiveing strong that couldn't hear me, especially from Europe. Guess there was a lot of QRM on their end.

I don't play radio. #I operate it. Amateur is real radio, not toy.

Although I had been looking forward to it for weeks, I didn't participate. For the past month, every weekend it has rained. The weekend is just about the only time I can work on antennas. Finally, this weekend it didn't rain, so I finally built a large antenna. Too large in fact. My mast probably couldn't handle the wind load. So, on Sunday, I decided to spend the day relaxing. Watching the first season of the Simpsons.

Today, I decided to split the antenna into two. One will go on the 42ft mast, and the other will go 35ft up into a nearby tree. So... as for the contest....maybe next year...

What kind of antenna did you build? I admit to being an antenna wuss, I'm waiting for nice warm spring weather before I go out and do anything new in the way of an antenna.

A parallel dipole with 80m, 75m, 40m and 30 legs.... Nearly 370ft of wire, 126ft long and 1ft between top and bottom wires....and what a wind catcher it was. Watching it dance at 30ft in 25mph winds made me think better of putting it up all the way in the air.... so, I will split it in two. Antenna building is fun and in less than a year on HF, I've used about 2,000ft of wire.

I remember seeing your post on that now. I've looked at those and I think I'd like to make one as well. Let me know how it works for you when you do get it in the air.

I got up early today and spent a few hours on it. I got it finished just before time to head to school. When I got back, I hooked it up and checked it out. All bands... 40m, 30m, and 15m work. I had to add 15m legs since the 40m wires would get the SWR down to about 3:1 at the lowest on 15m. I just need to trim the 40m legs a little bit.

Parallel dipoles are easy to make. Just remember, the more bands you have on it, the more heavy, and the more complicated it will become. Here is a picture of it in test position, at ~28ft. After I get a few parts, I'll put it up at about 42 feet.

I haven't put the finishing touches on it yet, that is why a few spacers are crooked. Some aren't secured because I needed to see it in the air to see exactly where they needed to be.

What are you using for spacers?

1/2" PVC pipe. Each spacer is 10 inches long in the picture. You can get the pipe from Lowes for $1.00 per 5ft section precut.

Not to change the subject, nor bring up a long dead post without reason, but does anyone happen to know who won the 2005 World Wide RTTY WPX Contest for the Rookie division?

Talk about a blast from the not so distant past. I don't know who won, but that antenna is up at 45ft now and doing good.

Cool. One of the guys at Field Day had a version of that antenna. We used it for the GOTA station. It worked well.

On an unrelated note, does CQ ever update thier web pages? I can't find the contest results on the web anywhere and from the looks of it, they were published in the last issue of the magazine.

Rumor has it I won something.
