ARRL Take Note:
I have been out of radio for a few years. What do you mean by this poll? Is ARQ a stand-alone mode now. It used to be used for Clover and Pactor and packet. Are you for it or against it? Just wondering.
You really don't make your poll question very clear. Do you mean "Is there more or less qrm from ARQ modes?" or "Should there be more or less qrm from ARQ modes?"
By ARQ modes, I would imagine that you are talking about AMTOR/PACTOR BBS operations, but if you do, why didn't you just say so? If not, what exactly ARE you thinking of?

Another meaningless attempt to stir the pot and poke a finger in the ARRL eye from down in the packet black hole of TX.

The ARQ modes I am referring to are the ones that start off narrow, establish a connection, then abruptly go several times wider so they take up a good deal more bandwidth.
I'm not really for or against any digital mode, as they all have their special features. The special feature that wide ARQ modes offer is increased throughput.
One problem with the wide ARQ modes however is that for whatever reason, they have a tendency to crash ongoing QSO's. - A lot of amateurs complain because a wide ARQ mode station ( typically PACTOR III ) will suddenly appear on top of thier QSO.
I'm asking amateurs here if they are interested in having more, or less of this kind of interference. There is currently a proposal on the table that would pepper the bands with dozens more of these wide-ARQ mode stations, all over, as part of an E-Mail over Ham Radio system.

I'm confused as I assume your are speaking of HF. #Digital is not permitted in the phone subbands on HF. #(See the chart: ARRL allocation chart (http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/regulations/Hambands_color.pdf)) So why is phone involved in this poll of yours?

- Because the new ARRL bandwidth proposal gives them permission to operate anywhere they want to, including the phone subbands which the proposal will eliminate.
Does this clarify the issue? Don't forget to vote!

##Sarcasm## Now, now. Dave Sumner says it'll be OK if everbody sticks to the "gentlemen's" agreements and ARRL bandplans.##/Sarcasm##
Of course he didn't explain how a Ham running SSB where he's supposed to be, and being QRM'd by one of these robots is supposed to ask the other guy/robot to move. If the current state of the digital sub-bands is anything to go by once you cut these stations loose in the SSB sub-bands they will operate with impunity. They couldn't care less whether they're QRMing an ongoing QSO or not.

Well, the thing to remember (and I agree with your concerns) is that the robots will only be on frequencies that their owners - our fellow hams - have set them to be on. #As much as I would love to see mode restricted subbands go away, I just don't see enough of today's hams cooperating.
My bigger worry, and this is just MY personal worry, is what the SSB guys are going to do in what are currently the CW(and yes, digital) subbands. #Anyone here who believes they'll leave the CW ops in peace has his/her head in the sand. #I suspect the attitude will be the same as many who suggest (rightfully so) QRMing the truckers off the 10m band.
The small space that any gentlemens' agreement will leave for CW ops will be seen as "uncharted territory to be colonised" by the "new SSB conquistadors."
For a gentlemens' agreement to work, everyone has to be a gentleman. #Have you checked out American society in the past 20 years? #Sure, there are gentlemen, but not enough.

If it keeps Charles busy creating polls and discussions, I'm all for QRM. More please.
