After lurking and having read your many beliefs and actually researched some of them myself of the differences between W5YI and ARRL VE's, I'm led to the quick conclusion that W5YI really isn't my bag. I threw away the application they sent me.
My question for you is, after an exhaustive search of the ARRL Site, I have yet to find where to apply to become an ARRL VE. Do you have a link for that? Thanks.

VE Manual (http://www.arrl.org/htdig/?method=and&words=ve)
The link above will take you to the page for the VE manual. Read the manual and fill
out the paperwork and submit it. The test is an open book test, so all that is required
is to read the book, find the answers and away you go.
Your local ARRL VE team, if you have one, will be glad to help you get the self study book.
You can also go here:
http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/#arrlve
See the information on ARRL Volunteer Examiners to get the book and information.
It's a simple way to give something back.

As if you don't have enough leads already, you might also try emailing: vec@arrl.org
The VEC manager is Bart Jahnke W9JJ. He will be happy to hear from you and he is quick to respond to emails, from my experience.

Very true, Bart is a great guy and a top-notch manager... and I don't say that about many managers.

If there is a local W5YI test team, why not join it? If you can help out, its very good, regardless of who you are testing for.
