A Los Angeles area club calling itself "Repeater Owners Against Gerritsen" (ROAG) has been granted the callsign KG6IRO via the vanity call program on Saturday (2/5/05).
I personally do not know many of the details on this as yet, although I did hear the KG6IRO call being used as a club call today........
I wonder if this will finally make Mr. Gerritsen realize that he does NOT have an Amateur radio licence....
Food for thought.....

If they are so much against the guy, why did they want his callsign for their club?

That doesn't sound too bright to me. Now any one hearing the call sign will figure it is legitimate and not bother reporting it OR everyone who hears it will flood the FCC to the point they just ignore him and let him continue. Sounds to me like they just did him a favor he could not have gotten if he bought it. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif #http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Why do people take what is intended as an insult and use it as a self-appellation? To rub it in by turning the tables! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

If this is actually true, it's about the dumbest stunt I've heard.

It's true... see FCC listing (http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=2692177)
Actually people COULD report Gerritson for illegally using someone else's callsign.. Thats illegal as well, no? Add up a few more charges against the guy and the sun will be leaving vertical striped shadows across his pillow.... eventually..

Why thank you! I...
Oh.. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif You meant someone in California.. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
Wow
Selecting that vanity call was not a smart move.
Can you imagine all the enforcement problems that club is going to face because the same "individual" continues to use the call.
I love this hobby but some times I wonder if we sould expand the testing to include some common sense and people skill questions. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
What happened to the two year waiting period.
I guess the FCC vacated that call for immediate reassignment.
..also what does it show of a ham who starts a club that is against another person. I am not defending the former short time holder of the call, but I don't see why someone would go so far to start a childish club against another person. Next we will see the "Radio Amateurs Against OWO" Club..
... tho if dues are not too high, I might join the RAGO..

No, the FCC says it was never a legally issued callsign, so the two year period doesn't apply.

I'm relatively certain that the FCC will know that Gerritson and this club are not one and the same.. Would you expect that YOU would be punished if someone else were to be using your callsign?
What I find interesting is that I never assumed that he would be a personal problem, but I was sharing the insomniac net with my daughter via IRLP and then he cut in with some sick profanity via the WINS system.
I have now become familiar with Jack's voice, and after listening to him a bit, I think the man needs help, meds, and a radio-free life.

I remember reading a collection of articles about him here > http://www.w6dek.com/435Photos/kg6iro/Jack_in_the_News.html
my favorite quote (this is in the trial after the police arrested him for interfering with their repeaters)
"Gerritsen represented himself at the trial in Downey and sang
the theme from "Cops" to the jury as part of his closing argument"
You have to have a certian amount of respect for someone who could sign the theme from a tv show in a court room.

Personally, I think this is a perfect psuedo solution to the problem.
Him operating with another's callsign rather throws a different light on the issue http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Consider..

Hi all,
Someone just may think he's the trustee "legitimizing" the callsign. Way to go ROAG!
BTW, I can't see using another's callsign to be any different than operating without a license if you get my drift.
