Howdy once again everybody!
I'm currently studying for my Extra upgrade, just have 3 subelements left and I plan on passing the test on 02/19 at our club's hamfest setup day. If I get this I will have made it to Extra in under 2 years of when I was first licensed, which means alot to me.
I'm currently passing the practice exams even though I haven't even finished he manual yet. Most of it's knowledge I already have.
I'm just curious if anyone else is currently studying for Extra, or any other upgrade.

Thought about Extra, but not motivated enough yet to bother. Still want to see how the 40m re-alignment shakes out.
Good luck.

Yep, was going to take the test last month but life in general kept me away. I don't have the math quite right yet anyway. I'd like to get the upgrade in before FD.

Yes, I'm studying for the Extra exam. - Mainly because I'd like to help out with giving the tests, locally... If I'm not careful, I'll probably learn something too.
I liked the demo at www.hamtestonline.com (http://www.hamtestonline.com)... I'm seriously thinking about coughing up the bux for the full-boat version. Very impressive!

Patrick,
Well done., and best of luck( you won't need that) on your upcoming exam.

P.S. My wife who has a BFA with honors is working on a degree in geology (at 53 years old) and is presently taking college physics. Last semester she went to church in the morning before her physics final, and asked everyone to pray for her. The priest said to her, "Catherine, prayer is not the proper strategy to pass an exam".
Patrick, I'm sure you know this. I expect you to Ace it like my wife did, because you are well prepared.
Hi guys, I am already an Extra but I wanted to say good luck and hang in there. It is well worth the effort. Let us know when you pass.
Working on the Extra, hoping to take the test on the 13th. My plans may change, if my parents plans change.
Just out of curosity, who's getting a new callsign when you upgrade? I am going to keep KD5OWO..

I'm going to keep mine as well. I've gotten used to it, sort of the way I did with my wife.

Well thanks for the motivation everybody. I'm not really having any problems thus far and still passing practice exams even though I'm not finished with the manual quite yet. I'll be keeping KG4YUV because I'm just too used to sending it in CW!!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
I just realized that you were 15 Patrick.. my stepbrother (his name is also patrick) is working on his Tech.. he has been passing all the practice exams, and learning the stuff quite well.. Hoping he will take his Tech test when I take my Extra.
Patrick, you are welcome to the NAYN every friday at 2300z on 14.329MHZ (or abouts).. All hams are welcome.. we love to hear young people, and those young at heart..
Good luck everyone on your upgrades..

I tried the NAYN several times in the past to no avail. Don't know if it was conditions or what. Oh well.

Yeppers I am. Not real steady about it though since I have other obligations that take up my time and limited gray matter.
But hey, it's no big deal. It's learning the electronics rather than "punching the ticket" that matters to me the most. Eventually I'll get there and then it will be icing on the cake.

Started reading the study guide a week or so ago. No real deadline to take the test, but really want those additional 25khz in the CW bands as that's where a lot of the DX is!
How accurate have the online tests been to the real thing? I'm passing every one I take but they seem too easy so will keep studying.... "guessing lucky" isn't a good test strategy IMO.

I was for a little while, but I am currently studying for promotion to E-6 in the Air Force. Another $330 base pay and $1100 for housing in the bank for my family can't be passed up. I will recommence after March 16th to get Extra.
Shame I can't know the results sooner than June for promotion as I can know whether or not I passed any amateur test right away.

No I mean I never heard it in the first place. Oh well, if I ever get time I'll try again.
Anyhoo, I started on Subelement E9 today, and finished groups A and B. That leaves only three groups and I'll be done with the theory! I'll have all of next week to review the entire book, mainly any sections I'm troubled with, so there's really no reason why I shouldn't pass this exam with flying colors! I hope anyone else studying is having the same progress that I am.
Out.

I said the same thing when I was waiting for my Extra, old call sign N9HXX, but then I started thinking about it and said what the heck. Glad I did. It was worth it.

I recently passed my Extra class upgrade by using the online practice tests and the study guide to help me with the stuff I was totally clueless on.
As far as getting a new call no way I had lapsed from the early eighties and when I got back in to Ham radio the first thing I did was vanity my novice call back. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Good luck to all of you who are currently studying. It truly isn't that hard.
I will be happy to see from more /AE posts on the forums here.. and even the /AG posts.. advancing in the hobby/radio service is very important..
