Thanks to some of the guys here in this forum, I decided to purchase a Larsen 2 meter 1/4 wave whip antenna and Mag mount for mobile use. And I sure am glad that I did!!! It was the NMO Q C and NMO MM R to be specific.
I got it in 2 days and I didn't even request 2nd day shipping!!! I tuned it to the center of the band at 1.3:1 across the entire band (144 - 148) WOW what a difference. People that I have talked to have said that I sound like I am on my Base station and solid into their repeaters. Simplex sounds great too!!! Thanks guys for all of your help and great advice!!

My Larsen glass mount 2 meter antenna also does a fine job. I can kerchunk repeaters clear across the state!

You think that 1/4 wave does something, get the 5/8 wave ;)

Good choice regardless http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Glass Mount??? #Where's your sense of adventure? ... you need one of them 'tennas where you gotta DRILL a big fat hole in your ride!! Drilling not only reduces the weight of the vehicle, resulting in improved fuel mileage, it also adds 2 dB to your signal!

Real men use hole-saws mounted to a 1/2" drill motor!

SY:

You are "lucky"! My Larsen "on glass" 2 meter antenna is somewhere between Richardson and downtown Dallas along southbound Central Expressway! Larsen did replace the antenna at no charge but I decided to go with the "L" brackets off the sides of the trunk. That was 8 years ago and I have never looked back!

Have used Larsen antennas since 1970 and, with the exception of the "on glass" antenna have been very satisfied.
