Ok - I need Delaware to finish WAS. So this weekend I thought i could work some with the Delaware contest on. I have been listening and no Delawares.
Aha- I knew it there are no hams in Delaware! What is up? Has anyone else heard some Delaware hams this weekend? Do I have a Delaware filter on my rig or what? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
N3ME has been spotted on the DX cluster a few times today. He's been sticking to the upper side of 20M and was last operating on 14.258.
I hope you work a DE station!

I have a brand new Cobra Ultralite antenna and a tuner that needs to go up. If you want to put them up for me, and save me the hassle I would be more then happy to be your DE contact!!

I'm on 7.035 PSK31 calling CQ DX right now....
And not getting any bites, either.....

Well I don't have any Digital equipment yet but wish I did. Never did hear a delaware but then I listened intermittently over the weekend cause I had a lot of other stuff to do. Darn it!

Would an ex-Delaware do?
Was W3GAB in Delaware back in the early 1970s, but guess that won't work. Gee, sorry!
There were LOTS of Delaware hams on the air back then. And just a few days ago I heard one of the OTs from there, Don, K3LGC, but couldn't get back to him.
Hope you find one. When I was there I often got "You're my first Delaware, please QSL!"
So I understand the problem. Good luck!

Well, it's either phone or digital if you want to work me. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
PSK31, RTTY, or SSTV on any band 80m thru 10m.
Phone on any band 160m thru 10m.
Sorry, boys, no CW. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Oh, BTW, did manage a couple of DX stations eventually.
Also found someone from my own state as well. Who says there aren't any Delaware stations on the bands? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I don't do Phone alot mostly CW. But would love to get together on Phone if you can put up with my not very good Phone "technique". What times and bands do you frequently use?

Well, lately I've been hanging out on 40m PSK31, 75m phone, or 160m phone. Since I usually don't get home until 23:00 UTC, those are the bands that seem to be up.
Typically, I get Ohio on 75m phone or 160m phone. 40m has been going long very early in the evenings and the BC stations are always murder. If we try 40m, it will have to be right after I get home.
Too bad you don't have digital modes up and running. All it takes is a soundcard interface, your radio, and your PC. I like the stuff from http://packetradio.com and it's relatively cheap compared to a RigBlaster.
Send me a PM or email me direct and we'll see what we can do.
Guess some of us Maryland guys should mount a "DX-expedition" to the First State.
Next time I drive up to HRO in New Castle, I'll take the 706 mobile on HF.

That actually has happened before.
There have been several times in the past that groups from MD, PA, and/or NJ have come to my state to get Delaware on the air.
I believe that Pea Patch Island is a favorite spot for such operations.
I also needed Deleware for WAS. Was lucky enough to snag 3. Two on 20 and one on 40. Was glad to finally get them on the air.

Well W8EFA, you should try 2meter ssb the other HF. I had a station from Dover last night on 2 meter ssb. Oh well, so much for HF.
Better luck next Time, OM!!!! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
2 METER SSB THE OTHER HF!!!

As someone who has done both, I can't begin to tell you how silly that comment is. 2m SSB doesn't compare to HF SSB by any stretch of the imagination.
I suggest you upgrade before you make any more comparisons like that. You're obviously misinformed and inexperienced.

I only have 2 Deleware contacts in my 9 months of HF so far. That is out of a modest 368 contacts. Of course at my current rate of activity, I would make around 2000 QSOs a year. California tops the list with 35 contacts and Texas is runner up with 32.
I still need North Dakota and Alaska though.

I'm working (if you can call it working; I'm not trying very hard) on WAS on eQSL. I seem to be holding at 44 states with AG confirmed.
It'll happen when it happens. Not going to worry about it. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
In the 60s I used to go on "DXpeditions" to Delaware in order to give the section out to hams in the Philadelphia and New Jersey areas during the ARRL and CQ VHF contests.
I had a slip together 15 foot mast and either Halo or small beam antennas that I would bracket to the car. I also used low power AM transceivers (Gonset communicators, Heath Twoers Utica 650 and PolyComm stuff)
Even got permission to set up on a nice piece of commercial motel property just across the Pennsylvania line into Delaware. It was rare then, and apparantly still is.
I just looked, and there are 1,390 licensees In Delaware. About half of them are General and up. Delaware was one of the very few I missed during the SS.

1,390 x .33 (assuming the somewhat accepted figure of 1/3 of hams are actually active), then divide by 2 = 230 Delaware hams, General and above, on HF.
Now, I know I'm on about 3 days a week. I also know 2 other hams in Delaware who keep similar schedules.
Hmm....
So where the hell are the other 227 of you slackers?

Call Ralph, W3GL in New Castle, Delaware.
He's on every afternoon and evening on 75m AM.
Pre-sunset, check around 3835Kc, post-sunset, check around 3875Kc.
A former multi-op contest station site, Ralph relaxed into vintage AM in recent years and puts out quite a strapping signal.
N3ME in Bethany Beach, DE is retired and can often provide a Delaware QSO on a scheduled basis via: CW, PSK31, RTTY or SSB on 10 - 80 meters.

There were several CW stations on 40M during the DE QSO Party. I worked five of them in NEW. I'm from DE and I worked 107 stations on 40CW during the DEQP before I went to 30 to ragchew.
I just sent out 2 QSL's for ppl who needed DE that I worked during the contest. One was QRP WAS and the other was WAS.
If anyone needs DE and you don't mind setting up a sked feel free to PM me. I can work 40 - 10 CW or SSB.
If you don't want to set up a sked you can try calling CQ DE on 40M CW in the evening hours between 00:00Z - 04:00Z hrs. This is usually when I'm in my shack programming and I'm usually monitoring 40M CW somewhere between 7035 - 7060.
Best,
Brian
Digging up an old thread...
My very first QSO on my IC-746Pro was a DE station on 80m PSK. That proves that the 746Pro is a good radio for getting the rare ones.:p

Yup, I gotta get in the habit of looking at the posting dates:rolleyes:

As do I.
Does anyone really have definitive proof that there are actually hams in North Dakota?

I finally managed to get ND in the RTTY contest... saw a KL, too, but never could get him as the band was fading...
Oh, well, still just Alaska to go.
