"TUNE UP FOR DAYTON" AT THE 2005 HAMFEST IN ATHENS, OHIO
ATHENS, Ohio -- The Athens County Amateur Radio Association (ACARA) will hold its 26th annual hamfest on Sunday, April 24. Just a few weeks before Dayton, it's a good time to catch the spring "hamfest bug" and tune up your bartering skills for the "big one" in May. And, for those wanting to upgrade their licenses or to enter the hobby for the first time, exams will be given.
The ACARA hamfest -- featuring a large flea market with both indoor and outdoor space, door prizes and good food -- will be held in the spacious Athens Community Recreation Center from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To reach the recreation center take the East Street exit on either U.S. Route 33 or U.S. Route 50 and look for signs to the hamfest.
Admission is $5.00 a person, but the unlicensed spouses of hams who purchase tickets will be allowed in free. Free paved outdoor flea market space adjacent to the building for tailgaters and those bringing their own tables can be claimed the day of the event. Indoor tables are $8.00 each if reserved at least one week in advance, otherwise $10.00.
