Oh, I was hoping you were going to post a link to an I.Q. test online. I took one 2 years ago and had only 10 minutes to finish it. I scored 130 but I had to guess on quite a few of them due to time constraints. I guess that means I have a great "guessing I.Q.". I guess that counts fer sumpin' huh?
NOT!

Depends on which "scale" you use. The old one had a maximum of 200 which was never reached "in practice" and the new one is open ended.

As for myself, very high on the "old" scale. Don't have a "clue" on the "new" scale (haven't taken a test in a "fair" number of years".

Using which standard? Most IQ test's are biased towards education. A true IQ test would measure the level of intelligence regardless of level of education.

I am not real sure of the actual number of my personal I Q...but...

I passed not only the NCT test on first try...but I also passed the GENERAL written test on first try...the GENERAL morse code test...and the EXTRA written test.

i think it's likely most hams have a "high iq"...as the previous post said: passing the written exams is mostly easy for hams--now if my cw iq was a little higher, so i could copy 20wpm by ear!!ugh!what's that equation for enthalpy?my iq is about 1.5- half normal.

I have scored as high as 147 on a few of those tests but I am dumber than a box of rocks so I don’t put much faith in them.

Back in the 50's when I was a kid, our county had a geek that came around every few weeks and administered all kinds of standardized tests including IQ tests. Somewhere I found a text book for ED Psych written by the authors of the IQ tests Mr Moon, the testing geek, used. I figured out the scoring mechanism and started playing with samples of the tests that were in the book. I figured out what areas of questions were weighted and how the whole tests basically were scored. Armed with that info, I proceded to drive poor Mr Moon, aka Jessie, nuts over the next few years. I would go into whereever he was at that day and tell him I was feeling pretty bright that day and my IQ was probably gonna be oh say 180. Then I would proceed to rig the answers to come out with an IQ close to what I predicted. The next time Jessie gave the test I would pull the same stunt only say I was feeling pretty dumb and my IQ was only about 85-90 that day and whatta you know it came out. Poor old Jessie never did figure out that by announcing the dates he would be giving me the IQ tests he gave me the chance to study up on the IQ tests and skew the outcome. Jessie's mind was a great toy to play with in those days. He never did figure out that he should try a different IQ test written by someone else either. Oh well.

I took one of the tests that were out a few years back for computer testing. Don't know if I still have the file, but it was the modified standard test of the time, and ran on your machine.
Up for 19 hours, after a 6-pack +, I got a 136.
If I could pull that off as tired as I was, and under the influence, I'm happy.

The old test that was the fad in the mid-60's, I supposedly got a 180 on. In second grade.
No way to verify it though; the school district had the only physical copy of it, and they purge (destroy) records 5 years after graduation/leave of the system.

But, don't disbelieve that some teachers seemed to have it in for me based on that score. One in particular.

IQ scores are overrated to a degree though. Some argue that they only prove capacity in given areas, and those that aren't familiar with those areas the test addresses, will score low as a result.
And then there is the view of your having xx capacity, but what are you doing with it?

I have had three IQ tests in my life and the score on each of them increased as I got older. I suspect that this has something to do with a life's accumulation of knowledge and increasing rational thought processes. According to the tests, my IQ has increased 18% from my first one in grade school (never knew the score until I came across it in some of my parents papers after my mother passed away) My second one in high school where they told me the score and also told me that I was not measuring up to my potential, and my third one given at a managerial retreat.

IQ?

I Quit?

I took a series of IQ tests, and my measured IQ steadily rose with each test. It was obvious that I was learning how to recognize and solve the problems given on the IQ tests more quickly and easily with practice. I see no limit to the increase that can be made in this respect.

There is a finite (actually *very* finite) set of problem classifications given on IQ tests, and the human mind adapts to find increasingly efficient means to solve most of those problem classifications.

Need to quickly solve 3-dimensional spatial reasoning problems? Practice, practice, practice.

Need to quickly find meaningful words in scrambled letter groups? Practice, practice, practice.

Need to quickly parse through a problem in logic? Practice, practice, practice.

I believe that anyone can do this -- and yes, I think it makes you smarter... ... as measured by IQ tests!
