Most of them have good intentions but just happen to disagree. I voted for 'WAY too serious' in light of all the bickering lately. Lighten up people, enjoy the debate without taking it personally or getting personal, and definetly don't let it affect your life.

i never took latin in school,!

honestly, i stole that from a plaque on the wall in the office of the doctor that delivered my grandmother when
she was born in 1902! i saw it in 1958 and asked him what it meant!

another neat story, that doctor was a distant relative of my family on my dad's side!

my grandmother was from indiana, and my dad and family were from south dakota.

Immanual Kant was a real pissant
Who was very rarely stable

Heidegger, Heidegger was a boozy beggar
Who could think you under the table

David Hume could out consume
Schopenhauer and Hegel

And Wittgenstein was a beery swine
Who was just as schloshed as Schlegel

There's nothing Nietzche couldn't teach ya
'Bout the raising of the wrist
Socrates, himself, was permanently pissed

John Stuart Mill, of his own free will
On half a pint of shandy was particularly ill

Plato they say, could stick it away
Half a crate of whiskey every day

Aristotle, Aristotle was a bugger for the bottle
Hobbes was fond of his dram

And Rene' Descartes was a drunken fart
"I drink, therefore I am"

Yes, Socrates, himself, is particularly missed
A lovely little thinker
But a bugger when he's pissed

"Antiquis temporibus, nati tibi similes in rupibus ventosissimis exponebantur ad necem."

Don't you mean ad nauseum?

"Oubout - aye ooh- yay it -quay acting -aye ike- lay a ecker -pay ?"

What was that about a chicken? Pretty fowl!

"Caveat nabisco mausoleum, kemo sabe watchum what you sayum!"

That's about right, "kemo sabe" is Yaqui taken from Spanish "quien no sabe" meanding "why don't you understand?". Obviously Tonto and his sidekick had a communications problem.

"Number 9....number 9....number 9...."
"Turn me on dead man... "

Interesting little story behind that. back when half the population smoked pot and today won't admit it, we tried our darndest to get this guy off to no avail, we called him "Dead Man". Round about the nineth party he never touched a joint but got blasted, a contact high from thick smoke in the room. That was HIS Number Nine Dream.

I absolutely swear, this is a completely original poem written by me - I am not kidding; I don't take credit for others' work - in around 1990 or so, one night when I was forced to go to work while I had the flu [bleepin' unsympathetic boss, and allegedly nobody else available to cover the post] and was slightly whacked on Formula 44M:

"The Cartoon"

Flork flork dingle dingle whiff bonk foo
Dinky dinky wocka wocka zam bop thoo
Foing blop doinger boinger flip flop floo
Rabba rabba yadda yadda bim bop boo

I wrote one other short poem that night, but it didn't make any sense. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I've been told this is a true story... take with as many grains of salt as you like.

Following on the success of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system in the San Francisco Bay Area, commonly called BART, the people in the area around Fremont thought of creating their own rapid transit system.

Plans were cancelled when they realized what the acronym for Fremont Area Rapid Transit would be.

I haven't verified it myself, but was told it happened.

When I was stationed in the Chicagoland area, there was this land fill in the north suburbs (Lindenhurst?) that was called the ARF Landfill. You could ALWAYS tell when you were close because it had real distinctive oder.

Every year, as a prank, some high school kids would spray paint a "B" in front of the name ARF for an appropiate discription of that "distinctive oder".

Hi guys,

"Following on the success of the Bay Area Rapid Transit system in the San Francisco Bay Area, commonly called BART..."

Lemme see, at 100 tons each and 100 hopper cars that's a LOT of salt. (;->) Well, some don't think before proposing a name. In railroad circles they're just "rabids" and that's my grain (avourdupois) of salt.

Brings to mind the early runs of another driverless, conductorless computer driven shuttle in NYC. The train passed the airport and stopped in the yard, then the doors opened. Good thing nobody got off with all those third rails around before the doors finally closed and it reversed to the airport. "Take the train to the plane (but don't mind the pain)." Only goes to show who designed the first one in Oakland/SF, BART.

"When I was stationed in the Chicagoland area, there was this land fill in the north suburbs (Lindenhurst?) that was called the ARF Landfill."

Thankfully the largest in the world at Fresh Kills Staten Island (NYC Borough of Richmond) is now closed. The name of the town speaks for itself. BTW, that's where the WTC is now, go figure. I suppose they finally closed it so it wouldn't exceed the highest point on the island, Todt Hill. Now there's another interesting name, in German it means "death". Rather appropriate, that's where the big-time Mafiosi live.
