No kidding, yesterday and again today, a certain K8 was heard calling "CQ SK CQ SK" on 7036. He finally gave up today and made a couple of "normal" contacts.
CQ SK . .. First I tried to think of SKN, but that's NEXT week. Maybe, just maybe I should think the most logical and assume he's calling CQ for Saskatchewan, but . .. . maybe he's really trying for the great beyond?
Heck, if it works . . .

Ask kg4kww, he's always posting about the dead. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
Or perhaps the caller just saw "frequency"?

"sk" is one of the prefixes assigned to sweden.

I heard him on the air. #He had made a few straight key contacts on
40. #I guess he was getting warmed up for SKN. #Had a good fist if I do say so myself.
I believe the call was K8DJF.

Yes, that's him Rich. I dunno. That fist was better than "good" if he was using a straight key. His sending was perfect. Hmmm . . .
NBW, I hadn't thought of that and you're right, it is. But . . . 40cw in the afternoon . . . I'm betting against that. (Geez, how would you like it if folks said "Oh yea, that guy, he's an SK." That would Make me want to leave the country!)
I'm going to hope Rich is correct.
Happy holiday weekend!

I heard part of his QSO with K8EHE and he thanked him for a nice "sk" QSO. I took it
to mean a "straight key" QSO. I could be wrong on that. Happy Holidays to all.
I know a Novice who used to call CQ YL. Not sure if he ever got one to come back!

NBW, you're right, my original post didn't mention time of day. So I was implying that your suggestion was a good one, except that since it had been afternoon, I was discounting it.
ZB, what does QRP have to do with my doubting that a station in Ohio was calling CQ for Sweden in the afternoon? Scandanavia on 40cw is easy, but not at 4pm local on the east coast of the US.
So ok, we all agree, I should have said it happened in the afternoon. I didn't say that though, so I appreciate the suggestions. But since it did happen at about 4pm local here in NJ, I'm going to assume it had nothing to do with working EU DX.

anything else i could say on the subject would probably confuse me more than i am already! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif
on the other hand, he may have been trying to call
barry goldwater! http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Never say never. Say probably not, not usually, not consistently or no reason for that, but not never.
The DX that's been the most fun for me has been when it ain't supposed to happen. Ol' SK may not have been looking for it, but I am.
That's what it has to do with it.

The movie 'Contact' when Jodie's father died, she got on the radio, hoping against hope that her 'CQ CQ CQ' would reach her father.
In a way I can relate to the feeling of such loss. With as much as Amateur Radio is a hobby where experimentation is expected, maybe some day we will be able to talk to those who have passed over.
*shrugs* You never know...
Merry Christmas everyone.
