View Full Version : New shipping option for ham gear
Just saw these at the PO the other day. They are priority mail boxes that are a flat rate of $7.40 regardless of weight.
A couple of the sizes of boxes they had will easily hold a VHF mobile radio or several handhelds. Possibly even a smaller sized HF rig will fit.
Pretty good price and no weight restriction. I asked the clerk if they were serious about there being no weight limit. He said that if it will fit into the box it does not matter what it weighs. $7.40 is hard to beat.
I know what I am gonna send my canned salmon in from now on. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

My wife used to sell on Ebay and Priority Mail proved to be the most reliable shipping service. In fact, I've sent a few things out in the past few days Priority. So far, so good . . .
the USPS gets tons of my money in sending QSL cards around the U.S.. Somone's gotta feed the government employees..

RO that is interesting, what is the biggest size? Unfortunately so many shippers greatly mark up the ship cost for more profit, knowing the actual rate does not always help.

I just received an eBay purchase in one of those boxes and saw the flat rate label on the box. I could have easily shipped an FT-100 or IC-706 in one of those boxes as well as almost any 2 meter or dual band FM unit. I notice that a lot of ebay sellers are now shipping USPS.

Let's run a test to make sure it works as advertised, Michael. I figure that about a dozen cans would fit in that box. Mail them to me and I will let you know if all arrived well.

Per USPS website:
• The Priority Mail Flat Rate Box is $7.70 for any U.S. destination and any weight up to a 70 lb. maximum.
• The inside dimensions for the two boxes available are 11" x 8.5" x 5.5" and 13.625" x 11.875" x 3.375".
Fairly small boxes.
I am tyring to figure what I can get into these boxes that weighs 70lbs. Maybe I can have concrete shipped to Alaska cheaper!
