I found out that the previous owner of my IC-765 modded it for MARS. Can I do 60M without frying it? I can definately tune it out with my tuner. Also, can I go 100 KHz out of band without hurting it?

I have used mine on 60 just fine....

So you don't think I will harm it by going 100 KHz out of band?

If by modified for MARS, you mean it has had the transmit section opened-up for general coverage, then yes, you can transmit 100 khz out of band.

Now, having told you that, you are still only allowed to operate on authorized frequencies for the amateur service, or MARS frequencies authorized by your MARS membership. #Just having general coverage transmit capability on does not mean you can operate anywhere you want.

Well, I am wondering if it will harm it. Please don't go into that legal crap. I don't intend to transmit. If you want to get me in trouble, then tell the FCC that I run 5 watts on FRS, sometimes.

Shouldn't harm it.

Icom and others will not cover modified equipment under warranty, so that would be an issue if the rig were new; but, it's not. The IC-765 hasn't been manufactured in a long time, and it's several years out of warranty.

If you don't intend to transmit, you can listen anywhere the radio can pick up signals!

Don't be so touchy! "That legal crap" is what separates good ham operators from the "free-banders" of the world!

And btw, if you get caught transmitting on any band in violation of the R&R of that service, you stand to lose your ham and any other licenses you might possess. I would ask myself "is it worth that?" before I did any of it!

What other licenses would I have?

Ok. I just wanted to know what frequencies it could do.
