CQ to celebrate 60th anniversary with "CQ Gang" on-air event (Dec 19, 2004) -- CQ Amateur Radio magazine invites Amateur Radio operators around the world to join in celebrating its 60th anniversary by taking part in an on-air event during the first 60 days of 2005. CQ's first issue was published in January, 1945. During the "CQ Gang" activity--January 1 until March 1, 2005--all hams ever associated with CQ as staff members, contributing editors or authors--as well as current subscribers to CQ, CQ VHF and Popular Communications may sign "/60" after their call signs. Certificates will be issued for contacts with enough /60 stations to garner a minimum of 60 contact points, based on number of contacts times the number of different position multipliers (eg, editor, columnist etc) worked. Shortwave listeners also are eligible to earn contact points and certificates.

***My guess is that there will be at least 10 seperate topics in Q&A on QRZ asking why people are signing /6Ø after their call!!***

Now if I could only get the current owners of CQ Magazine to pay me what the Cowans owe me from 1973 (CQ got VERY much in arrears with their payments to the authors, contributing editors, etc.). The interest alone would set them back a "pretty penny"!

- i feel your pain... i've been stiffed by a couple magazines as well (not ham mags, mind you)... although, to be honest, most have paid well and on time...

- haven't seen a CQ magazine in a while, but then again it's impossible to find a ham magazine anywhere on the news stand nowadays?

- come to think of it, i haven't seen a 'news stand' in years!

You need to move to a more international city.

Here in L.A., we have hundreds of newsstands, they're everywhere: Selling not only American publications, but dozens of foreign newspapers and magazines in many languages as well.

And there is one heck of a "newsstand" at the checkout of every Fry's Electronics Store -- and those newsstands do include CQ, Worldradio, Shortwave Digest and other ham magazines that are still available via such distribution.

I'd miss that if I moved someplace in the boonies with no newsstands. Guess I'll stay here.

Well, Glen, I guess you and I can both sign "/60" if we want to....

The question is whether or not I want to extend my call by over 100 percent in terms of time to send it on CW!
