Last month we created Ragchew Central, a new non-radio discussion group on the board that is open to all topics. This has become a smashing success for a couple of reasons. First, it has served well to take the non-amateur radio related talk (such as politics, etc.) out of the ham area, and secondly, it has opened up new discussions of all types on its own. The beauty of this approach is that folks get a choice in whether they're interested in viewing and/or participating in non-ham radio topics. This way, all parties get more of what they want.
Based on this success, we have just created a new swapmeet forum called Stuff for Sale (http://www.qrz.com/ib-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=SF;f=18) that serves the same purpose. We now allow the sale of any and all items not related to amateur radio - but in their own Forum group.
There are some restrictions such as not offering anything illegal, no SPAM, no non-tangible goods, and no eBay postings. The new area is free to all users and can be used to sell just about anything that would otherwise be considered non-ham radio.
We hope you enjoy the new Forum. Please send your comments to me.

The no ebay listing thing should be on the regular ham radio swap page also, I just hate looking at someones ad and getting redirected to ebay. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I have suggested before that there should be a "redirect" forum where Ebay etc ads can be listed (or ignored).

Yes I agree. If you wanted a link to an eBay (or other) auction site I think that most of us are smart enough to go directly to eBay!http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You can spend (waste) a lot of time on Ebay. I would not mind being directed to something of interest.

Just let me add my agreement to this also - a section just for e-bay ads - that way we can ALL ignore them!

The swap is a good idea; I won't buy anything from an ebay listing. I know of a number of fellows that have been burned. The site encourages hucksters and thieves. On the other hand, I have had good successes in buying used equipment from QRZ and ARRL listings but I only buy from Extras; there is less tendancy for messed up equipment that way.
OK, so how do we get to these new discussion and swap sites?

Works for me.
I don't have to look through he "flea market" any longer to look at just ham gear for sale.

I don't know about the purchasing from "Extras" statement, but I have generally good luck on QRZ.COm buying or selling and burned on ebay twice.

To be fair and balanced, I have never been burned (after 80 buy transactions), from Ebay and have been burned by QRZ.COM swap forum.

I have bot almost 200 items off Ebay with very little trouble. The only minor problems I have had have been with hams.

Man, you have so much time on your hands to come up with great ideas!
You should be in charge of ARRL Fred!!!

Yeah, I have to agree with the reply to that post. I don't exclude dealing with anyone that is Non-Extra Class. Bad apples come in any bushel basket, including Extra's!
I too have been stiffed on FraudBay as well. I tend to not do much buying there.
