Well, I am sure that before humans got involved other animals were boozing it up. When I was a kid in northern Virginia, we had oriental persimon trees that bore fruit each year, and at the end of the season the fruit would drop to the ground and ferment. The local tweety birds would eat the ground fall fruit and get so drunk that they would fly oddly and frequently commit suicide by flying at full speed into our picture windows. We got used to the WOP sound and my father and I had to scrape up the bird carcasses from the yard.
