View Full Version : I'm sick of Oprah!

Does anyone regularly watch her show? My wife loves it and as a result I've been sucked into watching it with her a few times. It really gets under my skin! And not because she's a liberal, which I'm sure annoys most of you. But because of many of the other topics/attitudes she promotes:

-- Men are evil killers/abusers. The woman was molested as a kid. Fine, we all get that. But she won't let it go, and it seems to be the topic of at least one show per week. That theme, plus the abuse theme (ALWAYS where the woman was abused by the man, even though we know that many marriages work the reverse but aren't talked about). Supposedly done as a "community service" to all the abused women out there, I see it more as a transparent appeal to disgruntled housewives and others who hate their man.

-- Men always cheat/unfaithful. Show after show about "I caught him cheating", or once again as the "poor innocent victim woman" who didn't have the "strength" to pull away from a cheating spouse. She took it to a new level yesterday, where she angrily chided gay men who were married to women, and who discovered they were gay DURING their marriage! (I guess she's running low on material).

-- Being a housewife is the "world's toughest job". Not only does this insult the millions of men who are busting hump under a tyrannical/maniacal boss to bring in the $$ to pay the bills, but it also insults working women! But Oprah knows that 99% of her audience are stay-at-home housewives. Can't someone PLEASE state that this is nonsense, in like almost ALL cases? Pumping bon-bons and watching her show nowhere compares to being a firefighter putting his butt on the line day and night, or a surgeon, or...you get the idea. Yet, time and time again, she belittles the man's work and promotes his wife's stay-at-home duties as being far superior. Yes, that's great that SOME housewives actually do a great job with the kids and the house. But, I think many men would gladly trade jobs.

-- Women are ALWAYS victims. What's up with that? I thought the women's movement was all about empowering women to take responsibility. Oprah's shows are a non-stop cry-a-thon of "woe is me". Ever notice how she has to include at least ONE cry session per episode??

This is why the Tom Leykis show and others like it came about! Men are getting fed up always getting bashed and ridiculed!

I can't stand Oprah, or pretty much anything on "daytime" TV for that matter.

Dr. Phil is just as bad.

Well, you have to feel sorry for Oprah. She has been trying to sell her "retreat" (multi-million dollar house with helipad, caretaker's house, etc.) near Rolling Prairie, Indiana (LaPorte County about 60 miles from Chicago) for a couple of years and hasn't gotten any real offers.

She got "crossways" with the county officials because she wanted the roadway improved (beyond what the county normally does) up to her driveway.

Her armed guards used to come up the her fence and try to force away sightseers who stopped to look at her house through the tree line. Some people were intimidated and would move. Others would just stand there and ignore the guards which would make the guards VERY unhappy! After a couple of guards ran afoul of the sheriff's department for brandishing firearms they did stop that (at least in most cases).

Rolling Prairie is the town from which my father graduated from high school and is about 7 miles from my hometown of LaPorte, Indiana. As such, when we have visited my relatives that still live in the city my wife has wanted to drive out to Galena Township and look at Oprah's "retreat".

Now, it is a "very" nice house! However, it is in the middle of farming and peach growing land. Therefore, it is not really suitable in terms of the "neighborhood".

I agree, but further, what really ticks me off, is her constantly holding up her rich entertainment friends as examples that young people should emulate.

I don't watch this much, but occasionally "surf" past. One day, here's trashy little irridamtatin Brit Spears on there, you'd a thunk she was the first lady, the way Oprah oohed and ahhed over the little rich brat.

This little tramp has no real talent, no real morals, and certainly is not what I'd want for a young lady to emulate.

At that price, I think I'd just have to plant an antenna farm. And, if the road is so bad, and if she is really so generous, why doesn't she donate an improved road to the community? It certainly sounds like something she'd encourage politicians to pick our pockets to do.

WF7I

The thing is, she ought to be a politician. She got tons of air time in the media for being this kind, generous benevolent soul, giving all those "free cars" to her audience. What wasn't spoken about was that she didn't spend ONE DIME on those cars, they were all given out by General Motors or whomever. Yeah, maybe a brilliant business move on her part, or whatever, but NOT an act of amazing generosity. "Oprah, you're SPINNING!" as O'Reilly the womanizer would say.

WF7I
10-28-2004, 04:11 PM
I know this is an extra-dose of petty, but, I just *CAN'T STAND* the requisite SCREAMING that the ladies (and the audience is all women, with maybe one or two p-whipped men) have to do at every opportunity! "Free shoelaces for EVERYONE!!!". "WHAAAAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH OH MY GOD OH MY GOD I'm GOING TO GIVE BIRTH RIGHT NOW AWHHHWWWWHHHHHH!!!!"

Come ON! At least my wife tapes this show, and this scene has become so irrirtating to her as well that she fast forwards past it each time.

And while we're at it, what's with the in-vogue style of never holding eye contact with your guest or audience for more than 10 seconds? She's constantly scanning the audience, looking nervous, or like some ADD kid needing a ritalin injection. So annoying.

I remeber Oprah when she was in Baltimore on Ch13 as a news anchor...She didn't do well there so they paired her up with a guy named Richard Scher for a local a.m. talk show called "People Are Talking". She didn't seem that impressive then either. So she left for Chicago.

Scher is still here in B'more doing the news on Ch13. Often wonder how he feels about Oprah's success.

Anyway I see no need to watch her show after seeing her here. Don't watch those types of shows anyway.

Orca Winfrey has never been a favorite of mine. She's another big phony who plays in piles of money like a kid in a pile of leaves, but puts on that fake "yo GO gurlfren'" schtick when she wants to make like she's fresh outta da hood. Disgusting.

But remember -- nobody ever got hung out to dry for Male Bashing. It's perfectly legal, and even encouraged, in this society. (See also the Sally Forth "comic" strip. Haw!)

Every time my wife watches some melo-dramatic chick flick on USA or Lifetime channel, I predict how it ends: "It's all the guy's fault."

Hey, she can throw the remote--but she can't hit me.

"I'm sick of Oprah!"

Okay, three comments.

I've been sick of her since she first started.

"WF7I - Does anyone regularly watch her show? My wife loves it ......."
I don't see the problem there. That just means that there's one hour a day, five days a week that you are guaranteed uninterupted ham-shack time.

"KA7RRA - IN 2008 Miss Clinton and Oprah are going to run ......."
Nah, Oprah's going to be too busy running Disney.

Yeah, one would THINK so, but for some twisted painful reason, the XYL demands that I sit WITH her and watch it!! I CAN pull away, but then there's the requisite "penalty", which can last for days, even weeks. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I unfortunatly caught a glimpse of yesterday's show. Another "cute" thing Ocra likes to do is to make fun of how others talk. Some guy with a British accent was on and she put on a fake accent. The guy looked pissed (deservedly so). But he was a white male, so fare game I guess. He should have walked off the set.

The "blame men first" culture is sure getting tiresome. Try being a single guy in today's culture and finding a spouse!

Come on, Orca -- Toss my salad. Your table is waiting.

Big time "HAW"! Good one, that seriously had me laughing out of my chair, almost dangerously so. If my ample body had hit the turf, I may have had to go on Dr. Meathead's Diet Plan, to prevent future weight-related injury!

Thats OK.....let em do without. Finding a woman to hang out with sure ain't difficult though. By the time you figure what all their nutso demands will be on you who would want to get hitched to them any way?

OH!!........You mean a woman WORTHY of being a spouse.....OK, I'll go along with that.

Miz O rankles me more than a little at times with her anti-male schtick, too. But you have to give her credit - she knows who her audience is, and she knows how to get $millions out of them. I'm glad my wife doesn't get to see her often.

..because I have never sat through an entire episode of her show, and never really pay attention to talk shows that bring people on to bitch and moan about other people. I really can not say that I like her or not... There was a "news" show(mostly entertainment news) a few years ago that had John Tesh(for awhile) and a woman whose name as I remember was Mary Hart. They sat behind desks to read the fluff news items and read the introductions to the various clips of things like Hollywood premiers and other star stuff. The desk the woman used had a glass front and for some reason the cameras always took long shots when she was talking and closeup head shots of Tesh when he was talking. She had the rep of having the best looking legs in show business. And she certainly loved to show them off. And, hey, if some good looking woman wants to show off her attributes, who am I to disappoint her by looking away.
