LOTW says I need a certificate before I can upload a log file. What happened to my previous certificate? Are people really using LOTW? It seems a bit complicated to me. Thanks.

Let's start at the beginning. Did you request a certificate and get the post card in the mail and then download the certificate? If so, it's where ever you put it! If you lost it and need to replace it, log in to LOTW and download it from your LOTW account page.

If not, you have no previous certificate and need to request one. Follow the instructions on the LOTW web page.

Once you have the digital certificate, you use the TQSLCert software to activate the certificate, which will be a .TQ6 file. When you are ready to upload an ADIF file to LOTW, you first need to use the TQSL software to digitally sign the file and convert it to a form (.TQ8) that LOTW will use. You then upload the .TQ8 file.

I'm using it. #I've uploaded 2601 QSOs and have 418 confirmations. #6W1RY - Worked them in CQWW Phone 2004, was confirmed via LOTW a couple of days after the contest. #It isn't going to replace QSL cards, but sure is fun to get a new one in the books that fast.

I also use it. I have over 4200 QSO's uploaded and 357 confirmed.
I agree, It isn't going to replace QSL cards but it is Fun.

I use it too. Is it possible that your certificate expired? From what I've read, these have to be renewed once a year.

I used to use LoTW. That was until my computer drive was smoked. When I installed a new drive and tried to install the required software it was a no go. I tried to install the software on multiple PC here to get it to run and they were no go also. I exchanged email with people at ARRL LoTW, and they couldn't figure it out either. I was told there were issues with the software under Windows XP, but I didn't even try in XP. I tried to install under 98, 98SE, and ME. None of them worked. Oh well, no big loss. I'll maybe give it a try in a few years when it might actually work.

I also have used LOTW on a WinME machine and an XP machine without any problems at all. It is true that the certificates expire after a year. I just renewed all of mine amonth or so back.

I've been using LOTW for about 10 months now, no problems. Had a system crash and had to do a re-install, but just re-downloaded the software and then added the certificates from the disk that I saved them on when they were issued. Glad I followed that bit of advice.

I find LOTW cumersome to use at best,

There would be many more of us that would use it if it was not darn complex

Eqsl is simply easier and faster to work with
as a member of the ARRL (subscriber) I would really rather use the league's system but it is just too cumbersome !

I am not that lame as a computer user (at least not in my "humble" opinion but LOTW sucks !

And I have yet to have seen a GOOD how to use it article with step by step procedures in QST, #why is that http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif?http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif???
