Back in 1980 when i fitst started highschool there were all kinds of slogans for " Joe Walsh for president" Now with all things cosidered I think Joe( WB6ACU ) would be a far better choice Than Then Kerry , Bush , or Ralph! Imagine having an Extra Class Ham in the White House. Just wishfull thinking I guess.

before you and I were old enough, a ham ran for president. It is too bad that K7UGA did not win.

"I go to parties sometime until four --
it's hard to leave when you can't find the door!"
I love listening to Walsh's classic rock hits with and w/o the Eagles and just trying to imagine what it would be like to talk to him on the air... HAW!

I did rebuild his Collins 75A1 a couple of years ago. Frankly, I didn't even think about who it was until I was going through the invoices preparing for my CPA. Then it "hit" me! Joe Walsh, Studio City, California!

I've heard from folks who have talked to him that he is, to borrow a phrase, an "ordinary average guy" on the air. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

hmmm...an EXTRA class amateur radio operator in the white house !!! Great idea, so long as he dont make the rules & regulations any easier...and gives the FCC the money / manpower / etc needed to ENFORCE the rules & regs we already have... !!
Wouldnt it be great to have an FCC office in your county courthouse...manned 24 / 7 by actual agents of the FCC ? Radio waves would be a lot nicer ( even on the ole cb / 75 meters / 2 meter repeaters / etc ) and folks could use the rigs they have like they are supposed to and behave theirselves, or just sit back and LISTEN !!
But that will never happen. {rats}

Just one example of why Bush is a "pseudo-conservative" at best. I recall in 1960 through 1964 one of the prominent controversal issues was federal aid to education. I can still visualise a political cartoon that appeared in a pro-Goldwater newspaper. It showed a large steel ball labelled "federal aid". Attached to it was a chain called "federal control", and the other end of the chain was attached to the leg of a character labelled "education". It showed "liberals" covering the chain with dirt, one of them saying "this is the part we have to keep hidden."
Bush's "No child left behind" act and other federal education mandates are enforced by a threat to cut off existing federal funding to any state that doesn't go along. There's your federal control. Problem with the NCLB act is that it is an underfunded mandate. The feds have mandated certain education requirements such as universal testing without providing necessary funding. This forces the states to further raise taxes "for the children". So now we have additional federal control without corresponding federal aid. The author of that cartoon hit the nail exactly on the head. Goldwater would be spinning in his grave.
Another example from the Reagan era: He campaigned on a platform of "getting the government off our backs". But it was he who signed into law legislation that raised the drinking age in every state to 21 or else lose federal highway funding. None of the 50 states had the gumption to risk their federal highway funding, and all went along with the 21 year drinking age, even New York, where it had been 18 for decades. Reagan's policies while president could be summarised as "get the government off backs and into bedrooms."
Pseudoconservatives have no qualms about pushing for big government as long as it fits their own agenda.

Joe Walsh would certainly be a better choice than anyone I've seen in the last few elections. Unfortunately, I think Joe is smart enough to stay away from the low-life losers in politics!
"Well if I was king I'd sign a proclamation
And if I was president I'd pass a law
And I'd call for a full-blown Senate investigation
Of everyone who wasn't having fun"
Joe Walsh - "Fun" from the album "Got Any Gum?"

Yes i heard the song life's been good. In fact more then a few hundred time. I was just asking a 15 year old why would he be at a party till 4 as a joke. If you saw some of my past post you would have saw i said "life's been good for joe".
Good Day
Can you envision a tribander on top of the White House?
(73 magazine had a cover of that image during the Johnson/ Goldwater
election in 64. They also had a rather funny article which had LBJ attempting to learn code)

I wasn't old enough at the time to vote for the good Senator. I missed it by a year I think. You had to be 21 to vote in those days.

Joe Walsh for President? Aw, c'mon. That makes about as much sense as Ed Brooks (W5HTW) for president. Not quite, but almost. I mean, heck, I'm a ham, too, and I'm old enough to be smarter and wiser, and not too bad looking, by gosh. And my wife is prettier than Teresa P. Ketchup, and doesn't stagger all over the stage.
And I sure do need the money. And, yes, by cracky (or however that is said) I'll bring back Morse code to the White House. The Pledge of Allegience will be in Morse. Kids will be saying "Didit didahdahdit didahdidit dit dahdahdit dit .... " and at 13 wpm, by gosh. All across the country.
And I'll provide a frequency for enhanced sideband, too, perhaps around 6.85 mhz. And for FM repeaters, maybe on 138.6 mhz. Or perhaps 148.6 mhz? In fact, come to think of it, maybe I'll put both enhanced sideband AND FM repeaters on 6.85 mhz. Yeah, that's it.
Wanna see a beam on the White House? Ok, I know there's already one. But if you elect me, I'll put a couple more up there, maybe a Collins LP, or a Telrex LP, or both. And an S-Line in every room, yes indeedy. Just show your ham license for a short cut to the West Wing. (No pets, no dogs or cats, no skunks, no CBers allowed.)
I'll work DXCC from the Oval Office (which will put it to better use than it has been used some in the past. Then again ... ) And We'll have 24x7 code bulletins on what's going on in the world. And if you can't copy code, you don't need to know anyway. Go watch CNN.
Yep, write me in. Ed Brooks, W5HTW For President. Anyone out there with some bucks, start printing the bumper stickers now, so you can get a head start and get them distributed.
Yep, I have some fine ideas concerning the way to run the country. Them Iraqi insurgents wanna behead a captive? Well, I'll swap 'em. For every captive they behead, I'll behead (personally, by gosh) five of the prisoners at Gitmo.
Want closed borders? If you ain't got an Extra Class ticket with 20 wpm code, and you travel to Mexico -- you ain't coming back! Sorry pal. And if you run to Canada 'cause Bush was elected (and 'cause you lied four years ago and said you wuz going to leave the country and you never did. Liar! And you call BUSH a liar??) well, you gotta get that 20 wpm Extra AND a first class radiotelegraph ticket before you can even ASK to come back to the good old USA.
And Iran? I'm gonna nuke their nukes. Same with S. Korea. Whoops, make that North Korea. Gotta try to tell the difference.
Yep, write me in. Get your American pencils warmed up and sharpened, 'cuz I'll represent Dems and Repubs alike, and most of all, hams.
And by the way, all computers must be disconnected from amateur radio.
Thanks, guys. I'm looking forward to two terms. As soon as my doctor tells me what a "term" is. And shows me how to write it with my crayons.

Joe Walsh is a lot smarter then to run for president of the US, after all there is a chance he could win and he couldn't handle the paycut and the interference with the rest of his life.
