Funny, don't see anything on CNN about it. Something this big would have at least made the website. This looks fishy.
Haven't seen this story in US yet, either.
BTW.. there are MANY effective things done by the Government in the realm of prevention efforts against terrorism that you NEVER hear about.... and that is way is SHOULD be.,
You never hear about the 10,000 GOOD things - because that's the nature of the game.. but you ALWAYS see the results of the ONE that was not caught.
Just cuz you don't see/hear/read about the Government's effectiveness does not mean they aren't active.

This is complete road-apples. History is full of stories of our government "fighting the good fight" while being completely unaccountble for its actions. Dusting entire cities with radioactive isotopes and using our own troops at nuke bomb tests comes to mind. A government that isn't open is a government that doesn't respect its citizens.
At what point do we need to start goose-stepping and raising our right arms?
If what you say is correct, then the government needs to tell us of their success. The terrorists already know about them.

...just human nature
gripe if you are told
gripe if you are NOT told
folks just being their selves
I heard some "story" that Al-Quada has positioned "suitcase nukes" all around the US in major cities, waiting to be detonated during the elections. I don't think any major news outlets carried it and it is probably just rumor. Anyone else heard this?

All this talk about "dirty" bombs, as if a "clean" bomb exists.... Just what is a "clean" bomb??
NCR...
My comments were referring to public disclosure of the successes, of course.
Not sure how familiar you are with the 'black world' but let me enlighten you..
you NEVER reveal the successes you had for ONE VERY IMPORTANT REASON..
Revealing the WHAT makes people want to know WHY, HOW, WHERE, WHEN, WHO. That's natural.
Getting into all those areas reveals HOW you did it, what sources/methods you used and THAT reveals to the bad guys (or others who MAY be looking to become bad guys) WHAT *DID NOT WORK* so they don't repeat themistake.
You NEVER want to reveal methods/sources to the bad guys.. If they don't know WHY it failed.. they will NOT know how to fully/partially avoid it the next time and it makes it a lot easier to keep tabs on things.
That's classic counterintel 101.
According to your logic.. we SHOULD have (in WW2) released the fact that we had broken the HIGHEST level Japanese code known as 'PURPLE'.
After all, according to you, 'an open government' is paramount to keep things OK. So we publicly say 'We busted your code, Mr. Jap.. We're reading your highest level information and know where you are planning on striking next.. and OH YES! We are going to use it to take out your top level Naval tactician - Yamamoto - which will help shorten the Pacific War. But we just wanted to be open about it!"
As I said.. public disclosure of all things that hte GOvernment does is NOT a good thing.. CONTEXT, my friend, Context. The 'dusting' issue is totally outside of what I'm speaking of and is IRRELEVANT to the point.

This turned out to be a puff of smoke.
Anyone who believes "intelligence" emanating from an organ such as "the News of The World" is a card carrying subscriber to the "Weekly Worlds News".
The first thing to do with any intelligence is to seek corroboration. A policy, sadly, lacking in todays intelligence services.

A "Clean bomb"? That would be when the wife explodes into your ham shack, throwing every stray gadget and wire into the dumpster at supersonic speeds!

I am not married yet, but if my XYL was to do that we'd probably have to sit down for a LONG talk...

A clean bomb is one that goes off, makes it's mess, and you can go in and pick up the pieces.
A dirty bomb is one that goes off, makes it's mess and leaves radiation around so when someone goes in and picks up the pieces, they get killed too!

1.) Tabloids are not all Bovine Scatalogical fiction . One before 1979 spoke of an unnamed religious leader that would become a world power. I wish I had a copy of that article to compare the description to that of Iotola Komanie.
2.) In the BLACK WORLD of spies the simplest facts can lead to disaster. Would you want an enemy to know how to use our electric power grid to destroy American industry and terrorize America? Would you want them to know about new secret traps at our airports? Or how something weighing one gram can destroy a747?
Of course not!!!

9. Four nuns in a Yugo?
8. Explosion at the "Swiffer" factory?
7. Freshly detailed Plymoth Horizon?
6. Jessica Simpson?
5. Nuke dropped on a terrorist funeral?
4. The John Kerry campaign?
3. NCTs that can't pass the CW test?
2. Giant burst of flatulence that leaves no stain?
And the #1 Clean Bomb....
1. A bomb that takes out all these doom and gloom, end of the world messages and leaves the rest.
