Our popularity has resulted in a need to enlist a few more volunteers to help out on the website. We currently have openings for two types of volunteers, Moderators and Callsign Database Administrators.
Moderators
We need additional moderators for all of our Forum discussion groups. A moderator should be level headed, fair, objective, and friendly. We're looking for people who have a history of posting on the QRZ forums (at least 100 posts) that themselves can be used as an example of good forum citizenship. Moderators should know when and when not to moderate, such as when they are also part of an ongoing discussion. We're not looking for iron fisted dictators, just good people who will help to maintain civility and decency on the boards. Good writing skills and thoughtfulness are very important.
Callsign Database Administrators
We also need folks who would like to help out with the database and user registration requests. For this post, we need people who know a bit more about computers than the average user. If you're the type of person that ordinary computer users would consider a wizard or a teacher then you're getting warm. If you've administered large BBS systems, Blogs, or have worked in UNIX or Linux then you're probably up to the task. To be blunt, we need a couple of really sharp volunteers for this.
In addition to the abilities mentioned above, a Database Administrator has to really want to help. We get 100's of help requests every day and just when you've finished that batch, another 100 come in. If you can still smile after explaining the same thing for the fifth time to someone who just can't "get it" then you might be able to stand working on our Help Inbox. This is a position of trust and we'll need verifiable personal references from you.
Finally, please understand that these are volunteer positions. There is no pay and there are no benefits other than knowing that you've helped somebody enjoy ham radio just a little bit more.
If you're interested in either position, please email me at aa7bq@qrz.com Please put the words 'QRZ Volunteers' in the subject header of your mail.
I may not be able to answer your request right away depending on the number of emails I get. For that, let me thank you in advance for volunteering.
