Courtesy of the U.S. Geological Survey, you can zoom in from a satellite view of the continental US, Alaska and Hawaii, or enter a U.S. street address, and get a bird's eye view of your house and antenna farm (high resolution USGS aerial imagery down to 1 metre resolution or USGS topographic map) at MSN's TerraServer:

http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com

I was able to find my house, radio shack, tower and guy anchor points on the aerial photo.

If your street address is available in a data file such as the FCC's licence data base, anyone can pinpoint exactly where you live, so be careful of the enemies you make over the air.

From what I understand you could be seen without any magnification from a commercial airliner at 30k '.

I think you're supposed to wave with all your fingers, not just the one.

Some of you are wondering " How did he know there was a satellite taking pictures that day at that minute " ?

Well ( let me tell ya )...I was out in the yard, and the sun was shining, but it was a cold January day, way back in 1999. I looked up and saw this reflection of the sun off the side of this object way up in the sky, I knew it was no airplane, since it was not moving, so I looked through my binoculars, and I seen it ( the satellite )..with that little red light flickering as it took pictures right beside the camera lens...so I waved to it. The reason my hand looks like there is only one finger, is I had my hand turned SIDEWAYS for a second or two and so that is what you see.

I must admit the whole thing is hard to swallow but who am I to say. Have you ever considered starting your own reality TV show? With the way things are on the TV these days you would probably do very well just relating your life's experiences.

That is really cool! Wonder why they haven't taken any recent pictures since March 10, 1991... I looked up three people's homes in my area and that was the most recent date for all of them. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I use it all the time. When I go somewhere I've never been, a mapquest map or any other typical map just shows the roads. I go to terraserver, and see what the landscape and surrounding buildings look like, and pick out landmarks. I've done it to find hamfests, and testing sessions. The Texarkana Public Library looks very distinctive from the air.

WOW, I zoomed in on Norton AFB in Riverside, and could see the SR-31 blackbird and a bunch of fighter planes and heavy transport planes all sitting there.............

Not new, it was just state of the art when the photo was taken 10 years ago.

Sorry, just kidding. #I use terraserver a lot myself, but I don't think anyone could consider it a security risk. #Most (if not all) of it is aerial photography, not satellite photography. The date of the image is readily available, and if you are in a rural area like I am, they will be very old! #They also have pretty good topo maps available, which is the main thing I use it for. #Nice site, but in this day and age it would be a real stretch to consider it a security risk!

yea, the 31 was a real early version of the SR-71.
I think the 31 used rubberbands and a plastic stabilizer........jk

Ah, not to be picky, but Norton's in San Bernardino. (and you live in Highland??)
The one just southeast of Riverside is March. But you know that, right?

Thanks Tim, for being picky.

I DO know the difference between the two.......I've lived near Norton so long, that the name just popped out in typing. March is a SAC base and Norton used to be a supply depot.

Now Norton is basically gone, and turned into San Bernardino International Airport. (SBD)
Highland is 5 miles north of the old Norton base, and 20 something north of March.

Again thanks for the correction, and that makes number 2 mistake this year.......................yea right.

My wife keeps better track than I do.

Yup! I'm there all right but it looks vaguely like an empty lot. So now I know that the house was built after 1998.

Great News!!!!

When I put my address in, the picture comes up with the little stick-pin in my neighbor's house. If the terrorists decide to attack me at my house, they will get my neighbor instead. Ha! Ha! Ha!

On the other hand, if they decide to attach the neighbor on the other side, they will probably get me instead! Those damn terrorists!

I was wondering if I was the only one that noticed that.
