Glen
I am not trying to "stir the pot" just have a comment for you.
Several weeks ago I had posted a question about guns on here and the topic was deleted. I had asked why the topic was deleted and the reply was "This is not a forum about guns"
OK I agree then as I watch the forum for several weeks I see topics about OPHRAH, OSAMA, HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE, KERRY, BUSH, CLINTON, WHO SERVED, What music do you listen to?, Al Qaeda, Happy Halloween, Who's a trainfan?, IRAQ EXPLOSIVES, Brits' Pick: President Homer, DR. PHIL, FBI Investigates Halliburton's No-Bid Contracts, BASEBALL, UN HEADQUARTERS, ELECTION DAY,
OH and every once in a while there are topics about amateur radio.
Can we now comment about guns on here?

It was not I who removed a thread on guns (I know of a couple that are still "down the page"). Therefore, all I can say is to put up the topic again and see what happens.
Are you sure that the "guns" thread was here in the Talk & Opinions forum and not in another fourm?

That am am not sure on Glen. I have seen topics further down the list on GUN CONTROL but not on guns as a hobby. I do remember a question in another section about What types of guns do you have? and that went over quite well in fact there were a few replies from you.
Thanks for the reply just wondering

It's possible not many people are going to talk about their guns anyway..
Because a lot of people don't want to advertize to the world about that they have guns to begin with let alone on how many and what kind they have. It will be an invite to anyone reading this to go over their house and steal them.

Although I do have some firearms I don’t like to list or show photos of them. I don’t want the bad guys knowing what they may be up against. I know a fair amount about firearms and was an armature gunsmith. I once was a federally registered gun dealer until the license got to be more than I could afford.
I was a pretty good shot but have difficulty seeing targets more than 500 yards away these days. I can still get a pretty good group at that range with my 30.06. All the rounds are inside a gallon paint can lid.
I have fired some fully automatic weapons and really like the .30 cal belt fed water cooled the best. It is a little tricky keeping the barrel from rising however. The .50 was much harder to for me to get a nice burst and the rise was way to much to be effective for combat.
I like the BAR quite well. The one I fired had a attachment on the muzzle that helped a lot with the rise. While it wasn’t something I would ever want to use to just plink with I like the old thing.
I qualified as marksman with the M2 Grarand <sp> it was an unofficial qualification since I have never been in the armed forces. I was just invited to a military base to observe some of the firepower that was being demonstrated. One of the perks of being a licensed dealer.

Read the "Turner Diaries". If you think its OK to tell the world if or what types of firearms you own.

I do know that Fred and some of the other staff members have removed for sale and for trade advertisements that included firearms. There are some "sticky" things having to do with various laws especially of some of the states. As such ads including firearms are not allowed on QRZ.com
But, as for a discussion topic I don't see any difference between the ownership of firearms, the control of firearms, and so on so long as the thread is confined to the Talk & Opinions forum. In any other forum on QRZ.com then it may be shut down as being too far "off topic" from amateur radio.
In my opinion such discussions cannot be any worse than the know code / no-code, and the Bush / Kerry threads that appear all the time!

Talk about goofey laws, I know of an Indian gambling casino that straddles the border line between AZ & CA. Even though the rez is on both sides of the border there still are signs (and often someone watching) that forbid anyone from carring an alcoholic drink across the state line that literally runs through the middle of the complex.

Then there are the bars that actually cross the United States / Canadian border. The closing time in the United States is like a couple of hours before the closing time in Canada. Therefore at closing time in the United States everyone picks up their drink and crosses the International border!

I didn't know of such places. Would be fun to go see. I wonder if it was OK to go to the Canadian side to drink when prohibition was in effect?......Then return when you've had enough and wished you didn't.

The primary route by which guns get from noncriminals to criminals is via theft, mostly residential burglary (Wright and Rossi 1986).

Quite frankly I don't give a damn about what Kerry would feel about that. I know the man who had the sign and I know his record. And he is a true hero, just ask the men whose lives he saved while risking his in the Mideast. Hell this man spent longer in the hospital recovering then Kerry spent in Nam.

I agree, Glen - I do not think QRZ, whether in the T&O, or other forums, including the Sale/Trade/Want, should advertise guns, boats, cars, model railroads, airplanes, dogs, cats, horses, real estate, or women of the evening. At least we could keep the site from becoming a general flea market.
I really would not be opposed, I guess, to ads that offered to trade guns for ham gear, or ham gear for guns, but I do think ham gear should be in the equation someplace. As to women of the evening, well - those trades ... uh, never mind.
And hopefully, if the election isn't decided in the courts, in just a few more days (well, a week, after the sour grapes die out) the political stuff will disappear and we will see some real ham radio topics again.
Like -- Wow! Code! OT's and Newbies. Testing versus no testing. DXing versus repeaters. HF versus V/UHF. Keyboard CW versus straight keys. Computers in or out of ham radio.
Ed
Whoops! I almost forgot! How could I? "CB versus ham radio."
Ah, now I feel much better.

Well, people could come over to your house and steal your radios since you post here and they know you are a ham.

as a cc permit holder, i switch off between several different guns and never let anyone know what i am carrying so that if someone tries to say i pointed a gun at them, it would take a real good guess for them to say what it was.
as far as listing what i have on the net or anywhere else, no way.
if anyone wants to steal my hardware, they would have to work at it, and i would give them a demonstration of the functions of one or more while they waited!
I have a friend that made a joke picture for his boss. Made up a bumper sticker that said something like "will have sex for guns", posed his sexy wife over the bumper sticker and took the picture for his boss. ( Sounds like an up beat place to work). His wife goes to the store and wondering why all the strange stares shes getting. Ooops, bumper sticker still on the truck.

Then there was this young lady driving one of those "duallie " pick up trucks around town with a " FOR SALE " sign on the drivers side in the front window ( not the side or rear ).
Never did find out if it was the woman or the P U that was for sale.
