View Full Version : Stuck in (inex)Pensacola, Florida
Anyone on 40 or 80 meters phone down here in South Alabama?
I'm running 5 watts into a Comet QHV-6 in my hotel room.
The band conditions today were not good, but I'd like to try to work some of you.
I'm going to get a key tomorrow, so CW is an option.

**EDITOR'S NOTE***
Freq would be helpful
Uh...yeah. The whole point was to make a sked. I think the post is clear on that point...

You going to be there over the weekend? Do you have a 2m rig? I am in Birmingham now but live in P'cola.
Also, Thursdays at 6:30 on 3.885 AM there is the "Mullet Society". Alot of Pensacola Hams get on AM and talk about old rigs.

Yes, I'll be here over the weekend and I do have two meters.
I've been able to work some people on the N4PRA repeater (146.76) and can hit the 145.35 repeater.
Maybe we can do a sked on one of those freqs on Saturday morning?

Sure thing on the sked. #Meet you 9AM tomorrow, Saturday, on the .76 (pra) repeater. Ok? #
Also feel free to join us on 145.210 (100hz tone) during the Sunday NASCAR race. #One or two of us comment back and forth during the race. #The repeater is near "Molino" Florida and you may not be able to hit it from downtown.

Sorry if this is off topic but I was in Pensacola nearly forty years ago, during my Merchant Navy (Marine) days,
and remember being in a place called Trader Johns. A wild and wicked place. Still remember those girls with the tassels in in the right places after all this time.

I haven't been there since the hurricane tore through, but at least prior to that, if I were "stuck" in Pensacola, I'd go to Joe Patty's, fill up a cooler with fresh fish and crabs, start the barbecue going and throw a party.
Invite the Blue Angels team over for fresh crab and beer, and enjoy!
But I'm not in Pensacola.
Is Joe Patty's even still there, after the hurricane?

Info on Trader Jon's...
Great QSO with WX7B this AM. Very knowledgable and personable guy. #Living proof that QRZ is only one part of Amateur Radio. #David and I don't always agree on issues here but I had a real blast chatting with him.
There is a message in this for all folks on QRZ. The written word can't always express tone and personality. #I had a boss a few years ago and we both tried to communicate using two way pagers (Blackberry). #He had a style writing that I always misunderstood. #Same on his end. #We finally agreed that we'd use the pagers for "messages" but the real issues we'd talk about over the phone or face to face. #It worked.
I see posts here every day where people are at odds and sometimes feelings get hurt. #That is the nature of this medium. #Of course, it is a great medium for idea exchange and debate. #Messages. # But like my old boss, you need to talk to a person before you decide whether you really dislike them. #This has always been my feeling and why I volunteered without hesitation to set up a schedule with David. I personally cannot name ANYONE on QRZ that I would not gladly QSO with on the air.
Nobody can say I was ever the poster child for correct posting of messages here, but I don't care who you are, if you're ever in Pensacola let me know and we'll chew the rag however possible. Hopefully everyone on QRZ feels the same way about everyone else here.

Thanks, Charlie. I equally enjoyed speaking with you. Thanks for agreeing to the sked.
You are absolutely correct. I wonder how much of the rhetoric served up here on QRZ would be as venomnous if on the air live.
Then again, some people get their grins being contrary...
