View Full Version : I'm also sick of Dr. Phil!
What's with the worship of THIS daytime dork?
Several years ago, an audio tape of his was given to a friend of mine to help with his marriage. After 5 minutes of listening to the boneheaded one-size-fits-all advice, the tape got chucked out the window (on a high-speed freeway!).
What is up with people loving his moronic, often insulting, advice? The typical scenario seems to go along like this: "I don't know what to do Dr. Phil." "Well, yes you do, you're being a moron and you need to do X, Y, and Z!" "Oh wow, Dr. Phil, you are SO smart!"
I really question whether this guy has any real qualifications at all. I think he got his degree out of a Wheaties box one morning. And he's out there pumping his various books like a used car salesman, and he's even pimping out his son doing the same! And the coup de gras was that --get this-- he's now a DIET expert!! Wow, what'll he think of next, car repair?? "Son, your truck don't drive 'cuz you need to love yourself FIRST before turning that key!!" !!!!
Absurd, annoying, idiotic!
SIMPLE! Oprah is his bread and butter, Oprah is the second comeing, Phil is riding the wave all the way to the bank.

No...the rest of us are DECENT americans.
Easy solution to the daytime TV crisis:
Turn off the TV and turn on the radio.

I was being my usuall sarcastic cynic self. I'm basically anti anything main stream or fad. Dr. Phil & Oprah fit these bills.
P.S. I would say LIKING Dr Phil would put one on the indecency list.
Well, thank *GOD* the wife no longer listens to Phil. I used to hear about his latest psycho-babble advice daily ad nauseum. I still hear it from my sister though, who remains an ardent fan.
It's easy to get sucked into these huckster shows. Self-proclaimed "experts" abound. And who gave a license to ALL Hollywood actors to be experts in EVERY subject? They sit on those overstuffed sofas and "hmmm" and "uhhh" about as if they're contemplating cold fusion techniques! Get off the arrogant elitist chair, you know-nothing blather heads!

Well add Dr. Laura to the list of "can't stand ya!" The minute I hear her voice I turn the dial on the radio.
Dr. Laura is even worse than Phil. EVERYONE is always an idiot for good 'ole Laura. And I read that she's not even a PhD of Psych! Another shamster.
I love how she immediately makes herself the alpha dog and interrupts/shuts down the caller in mid-sentence, shoves the quickie bogus diagnosis down the caller's throats, which, if they don't accept, means they're an idiot. Ahh, too many long drives in the desert with nothing else to listen to!

Dr. Phil is a schmo. He left Topeka years ago under a cloud of controversy about his massage parlor and unpaid bills.

Sounds just like Bill O'Reilly's tactics.

Ahh, but lest you forget, the good Mr. O'Reilly grew up in "Levittown", so he's a "common man"! Dr. Nazi, er, Laura never made such claims.

I once watched three minutes or so of Dr. Phil. That was enough for a lifetime.
In fact, I hate ALL the daytime Doctor shows - Doctor Oprah, Doctor Montel, Doctor Maury, Doctor Rickie, Doctor Jennie or Jennifer or whatever her name is - they all "think" they are doctors and they are curing something. Well, they are right - they are - no, they HAVE - curred me of daytime TV.

Wasn't she a boxing expert or something like that on a long dead quiz show called 21 or was it $64,000 Question?. Some rigged quiz show from the dim dark past?

I'm assuming that you are being sarcastic since you refered to "her" (you knew she was a she, but then again maybe Joyce is a female spelling of the word that sounds the same and is the name of some men).
She was supposed to be a shrink who knew everything there was in the universe. She was presented to the American public via TV. Whatever she said was taken by the masses as "gospel".
I don't want to present what I really think of her/that situation here because it will change the whole tone of the thread.

That BA beginning of your "back" reminds me of a sheep joke. Do you know why its good to get a sheep between you and the edge of a cliff?

Actually I was being very serious. She won a whole bunch of money for those days and if I remember correctly her area of expertise was boxing. I may be mistake about her area of expertise but not about her being on one of the big tv quiz shows before the scandals hit and ended all the high ticket quiz shows on tv for years.
I am full aware of her later fame and fortune from dispensing advice to one and all through TV and books.

I was afraid someone would ask. I can't tell it here but those that know the joke will smile when they see my post. It has to do with the sheep pushing back if it gets too close to the cliff edge.
I can tell you've never been to Montaaaaaana!

KLT:
I'll be darned...I wasn't aware of any of that. I do remember her being on the TV and in the newspapers constantly being looked up to as the quintesential (sp) know it all of life, and things having to do with the mind. Then I heard she wasn't really a phsychaiatryst (I can't spell that sucker either and I ain't gettin the dictionary).
