The FCC passed BPL Thursday morning, with Commissioners acknowledging interference concerns, but expressing hope about proposed mitigation techniques.
The only dissent came from Michael Copp, who said the proposal does not do enough to make sure utility companies are blocked from raising power bills to help finance any moves into BPL markets.

Not a good sign. Another indication that the people in government power have little regard, and obviously limited understanding, of the people that actually use the spectrum. I think some of these people hear the amateur community protesting and think that amateurs are the only ones using HF, a large error in understanding as well.
Then, on top of that, they deny putting any financial cap on power companies in BPL markets; just what we don't need, more unlimited corporate profits that are government sanctioned.
Let's not also forget the security issues as well as the interference from BPL, which has been proven to not be the most efficient way to deliver internet by a long shot. Oy.

It's a sad day for us the amateur operator to now be confronted with another source of QRM. Todays sensitive receivers will pick up even the slightest leakage and unwanted radiation of signals from the lowest to the highest frequencies emitted by the power lines. It will be interesting to see if our local power companies will soon adopt these techniques? #A sad day for Short wave and VHF communications. # #

Print copies of FCC §15 relevant to incidental radiators, BPL, etc. and give them to any neighbors who complain about interference.
It's not going to stop me. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif
I think low power "experimental" BPL communication project articles should be published so that some of us who like to experiment could build these to communicate via the power lines to other interested experimenters.
Some company may want to sell kits like the unlicensed #broadcast band transmitters that Knight Kit sold in the 50's. #It might be fun to play music on QRP BPL so one Could listen to your CD's while in the yard and not hamming.
