What do YOU think defines a troll? I mean we all know that it's someone that posts one thing, and then comes on as a guest and posts something else... but what else defines a troll? Elaborate a little... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Anyone who posts anything just to inflame tempers.

That is the true definition, at least on the internet. The funny thing to me is that anyone that posts anything even remotely controversial, or contrary to what the obvious majority on this site believe, is labeled a troll when they're just stating an opinion like anyone else. Well, some of them anyway, there are certainly plenty that just want to rile people up, but many that get the troll label here are just saying their opinion. Then the people that don't agree, rather than ignore it or rebutt, just label them a troll. Always good for entertainment though.

I think there's a fine line between posting an opinion in order to start a discussion and posting something deliberately to inflame people.
For myself, I always try to stay on the "discussion" side of that line... I may not always succeed, but I do try.

A troll is one who lives under a bridge, and picks a losing fight with the "Three Billy Goats Gruff".

To be a troll is when you post something to incite a verbal assault. Kinda like posting that CW is stupid, or something ignorant like that when you know the majority of individuals on here enjoy and use CW.
It is when you post a topic or comment that you know will invoke emotion, tempers, etc.
There are ways to properly post or discuss topics that are controversial, but unfortunately, some don't know how to do that, or decide not to.

How about a troll poll?
1. CW is stupid
2. CW is cool
3. What's CW?

Insert rimshot here!
To be honest, a troll is when someone posts a comment that the reader does not agree with. Then the reader feels that he must respond to put thing correctly.
So this means that if one posts that he/she feels the weather in nice today, and another reader thinks the weather is a bit cool then the orgional poster can be accused of being a troll if the reader refuses to allow any ideas to be expressed aside from their own.
Any comment posted, no matter how bizzare it may seem to the reader, may in fact be an honest opinon of the poster.
Troll is a term that has grown out of the PC line of thinking. Accusing someone of being a troll isjust another way of making sure only the correct ideas are expressed.
I don't consider anyone a troll. I may not agree with a post and if it is really way out there I just ingnore it.

I agree with EZ, up to a point.
The word "troll" is used a bit loosely here, which detracts from the effect of using it when it is truly appropriate, such as in the thread started by "concerned father" sometime back.
Now, there was a troll.
