I would like to submit the following for this forum's review:
#Both are acquired through reputable sources. #I have great difficulty supporting a candidate that has such a poor record on Defense related legislation as John Kerry does, while we are at war. #A review of the site John Kerry's Voting Record (http://www.vote-smart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=S0421103) #A neutral fact reporting source, reveals that during the years 2002 through present, John Kerry did not vote in any defense related legislation with the exception of 1. Authorizing the use of force in Iraq. and 2. appropriations of $86.5 billion in supplemental spending for military operations and reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan, in Fiscal 2004. #I chose this period of time for two reasons. #First, This was the period of time that Kerry had a major change of heart concerning the Iraq war, and secondly, this was the last two years prior to his candidacy for President.

Also, the Washington Times, has this article :
'Trying to acquire Purple Hearts' (http://www.washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20040825-085753-2062r.htm)

My conclusion is that not only is this candidate soft on defense, #"He is the wrong candidate, at the wrong place and the wrong time." # To borrow a phrase I heard somewhere.

Comments are Appreciated.

I'm looking at his voting record and I see no high crimes and misdemeanors. He voted for 'Star Wars'. He voted for the SeaWolf submarine and against the Trident II. He voted against the B-2 just like Dick Cheney asked him to when he was Secretary of Defense. Voted to increase funding for F-18's. He did vote to reduce the Star Wars funding to the amount requested by President Bush I. Voted for a 5% military pay increase, which I believe Mr. Bush II has partially blocked. I see no massive votes to cut the military to the bone.

I could not possibly care less if John Kerry's first Purple Heart was from a scratch or a mosquito bite. If you are going to say that he did not earn his Silver and Bronze stars, as well as his Purple Hearts, you are insulting all Americans that have ever been decorated, everywhere. The person who wrote that article has a very low opinion of American Vietnam veterans.

No I don't have historical data to comment on that.

I am stating, however, that it is highly suspect that someone would win 3 Purple hearts within 100 days of each other, thus qualifying them to apply for early release from the Vietnamese Theater of operations. Upon discharge, charter an organization that accused combatants of war atrocities. Not joined, but CHARTERED., and made these accusations before Congress.

This individual who authored this article is a well respected physician who specializes in wound ballistics and surgery, and I might add, a Vietnam veteran himself.

I would be very interested in seeing a report on the medals earned by the other sailors that were on Lt. (j.g.) Kerry's Swift Boat. Since they are largely open-deck boats, it stands to reason that any engagement where one person gets wounded is likely to wound others as well. Also, since the boat is supposed to work as a unit, an engagement that earns one man a medal like the Silver Star will probably involve others who also earn similar medals.

Whereas I haven't read "Unfit for Command," there is a chapter in the book called "The Purple Heart Hunter." I also read that one of the recommendations for one of the awards has a forged signature. Unfortunately, with so much visceral dislike for the fellow, it is hard to know what's true and what isn't.
