I just came across this thing on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....1470067 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=296&item=5721470067)
It looks like the blind leading the blind to me.
Anybody know what it really is?
Also, what is it sitting on in the photo?
Jim GM3ZMA
I am not sure what it is, but even if it is an Amplifier, its not 7000 watts.. Maybe the person who made the bid on it just made the bid to bid..

What, you've never seen a 7000 watt 4 leg kicker before?
Seriously, from that picture (and description), i have no idea what it is...i doubt that the seller knows what it is either.
You've got to love that disclaimer, though:

I do not remember the nomenclature, but this looks like a Jeep radio from around Korean War vintage. The pushbuttons on the front selected the correct channel. I actually had something that looked very similar, but may not have been the same thing. My guess it is is a VHF (30-50 MHZ) AM radio (might be FM) and probably, if it transmits at all, puts out about 20 watts. I kept my similar item on a shelf for a long time, never tried to hook it up, and eventually gave it away.

Sounds like a scam artist on the loose on eBay again.
Think we should write and tell them?

... And I have no idea what a 4-leg kicker is, except maybe a mule? Or bad tempered cow??

No. Anyone trying to buy a 7KW amp in a box the size of a table radio deserves what he gets.
I'm almost certain this was a Jeep radio, as already noted. It's no amplifier of any type.

Very true... caveat emptor! (waiting for Glen to correct my Latin).

Hard to believe...
What's it sitting on http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif that is a side shelf for a Char-Broil LP Gas bar-b-que cooker my friend.

That was the first thing that came to mind for me, Ed...a mule on its back. #Who knows?
Jim, what in the world were you searching for when you came across this thing? #Never mind, silly question. #It was probably listed in the amateur radio amplifier listings like so many other of the silly things that get listed there.

The item is sitting on an end shelf of an outdoor BBQ, or it is the BBQ.
"I work for the Government" says it all, she can't tell the difference between a BBQ and an RF amplifier. Perhaps it is 7000 BTU.

You can even see the wooden handles of the grilling tools hanging there.
Whatta maroon...

If it is 7000 watts, I imagine it gets hot enough to cook on... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

methinks that the operators of e-bay need to know about it, even if it is not what it is advertised to be.

If I tried that here with a 7KW amp, it'd flip the grill over just before before it put a big hole in the deck.
Hilarious.

I think we've pretty much established that it is not a 7KW amp. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thankyou for the replies.
MEJ, I wasn't searching ebay for anything, I was just following a link from the CB section of www.radio-forum.com, "my curiosity running wild" as the saying goes!
HTW, I love your definitions of a 4 legged kicker.
REN, A barbeque! That really had me scratching the head, thankyou.
I think that ebay have pulled the ad now, but the whole thing gave me a bit of a laugh.

Q: What do you call 7,000 watts on Chicken Band?
A: QRP.
YO, Steve,
Listen up.....
Q: What do you call 7,000 watts on Chicken Band?
A1: Gross exageration??
A2: Wishful thinking (on the part of the CBer of course)...
A3: Joshing??
A4: BSing??
A5: There's no intelligent life there??

If you don't think that there are 7000 watt amps in CB you are just naive. This particular amp may not be, it's since been removed from Ebay, but if you don't think are plenty out there you just haven't been paying attention.
I guess someone reported it to ebay and they pulled it..
Kicker makes Stereo Amps, of course thats not what it is.. but I am sure thats where the seller got the name "kicker"
I just don't believe anything some goofy CBer claims...

I dunno - kicker is the standard name for "leenyar" in CB-talk.
As I noted earlier, I'm fairly certain this was actually a Jeep military radio, one that bolted to the side panel of the vehicle. Had eight pushbutton operated channels, and my fuzzy memory says it was wide-band FM in the 30-50 MHZ range, at about 20 watts. Wasn't an amplifier at all.

Frankly, from the size and detail of that picture, i don't have a clue what it was. #Pretty sure the seller didn't have a clue either. #Nice looking BBQ grill, though!
I've been racking my brain, but i can't remember any common military radios with pushbutton operated channels. #If you remember a nomenclature for it or any other details, let me know.
Thanks
