While the Speedo bikinis were a welcome addition this year I look forward to the day we see a contestant walk out in a thong and pasties. Booya!!!

Does Miss Alabama have any teeth?

Is it true she didn't try to date anyone during the pageant because she didn't have any RELATIVES in Atlantic City?

Haw. I mean YEE Haw!

There have been some "Miss Amateur Radio" contests held at various conventions in the past. I remember some being held at SAROC (used to be held in Las Vegas in January of each year), I seem to remember seeing photos in QST of the winner at Dayton (at least I think it was Dayton) back in the 1960s, and so on. I'll have to look through some of my old magazines for examples.

Unfortunately, beauty contests are not considered "politically correct" in most circles these days. The Miss America and Miss Universe contests usually garner a lot of protests from certain "politically correct" organizations.

However, considering some of the female gender operators that I have recently met (and there were some very attractive ones in the past) judging the contest would be very difficult to pick out the best looking one since the contestants would be very attractive.

I think there's some validity to the old charge that such pageants are but venues for geezers to ogle babes. As a very willing ogler myself, I have to agree with the talk show host who referred to beach volleyball and gymnastics as "Christian porn."

Of course it's not original. It's Miss Alabama, aka Miss America.

Since you didn't like the others I thought you would appreciate the original.

N8CPA OM.... Biggest difference between the Beach Volleyball and the gymnastics? The Volleyball players are usually of LEGAL age.

Tsk tsk! Shame! Shame!

Haw....

While I don't believe beach volleyball belongs in the Olympics.. there is something rather nice about a lady wearing skimpy underwear bounding about in the sand... Those smoothly muscled leg muscles bring forth memories of someone who would be able to maintain stamina for QUITE a while!..

(the preceeding is a highly male sexist charged comment from decidely NON politically correct man!)

And I am NOT an OLD geezer..

Old perhaps.. Geezer.. nevah!!!

Some bleeding liberals say that the Miss American Pagents are degrading to women, yet the women choose to be in it, and its an honor for them to win.. Also I don't see anything wrong with what they were, I am not a sexist pig, just an average guy...

AAO:

There is a "Don't Mess With Texas" bumper sticker, one that has part of a U.S. flag that says "Power of Pride", and two (2) Bush bumper stickers. All of these are my wife's.

Since I am the election judge for Collin County, Texas, Precincts 48 and 55 I do not allow any political signs in my yard except when our local state representative puts one up. Then it is my wife's and not mine! I allow this one exception because he is a good personal friend, lives about 5 blocks from me, and because his younger daughter and my middle daughter were best friends all the way from kindergarten until they graduated from high school. Besides, he took me with him to meet President Reagan when he could have taken any number of people! For that I will be greatful for the rest of my life.

Unfortunately, with my wife's bumper stickers on the car I have to park outside of the 100 foot radius from the doors at the polls on election day. Texas does not allow any political signs, electioneering, etc., within 100 feet of the outside doors to any polling place when an election is in progress.

Also, since I had a quad bypass in January of 2003 my heart doctor says that I have the heart of a 25 year old! Thus, since you are as old as you feel, I don't need a bumper sticker that says that I am a "sexy senior citizen"!

I saw the Miss America interviewed this morning. She's actually very well spoken and intelligent and has some huge scholarship to attend medical school, if I'm not mistaken.

These days, most of these beauty contests require the winner to not only be beautiful but also intelligent. In my mind, that makes them all the more attractive.

I think our society has reached a point where it can appreciate attractive women without degrading their intelligence or capabilities. At least, I'd like to think so. In any case, women will continue to participate in these contests because some women like to show off their bodies. Hey, who am I to protest? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Wasn't there once a "Mr. Universe" contest or some other male version as well? More than likely, most women would not tune in to such a contest! But, certain "types" of men undoubtably would. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Didn't the Govenator win a Mr Universe contest or was that some other bodybuilding contest. Last I heard, Mr Universe was still a bodybuilder contest.
