IMAGINARY SCENE Let us say that you are conversing with another amateur; not really talking about any thing important. or even if you are....after a full minute or two, there is a third party wanting to join the conversation. Sure you let the third station in, but how do YOU feel about this incident ?

Or, do YOU consistently ( big word for this forum ) interrupt ongoing conversations, and even go so far as to change the subject ?

Or does it matter to you, you accept it as being part of the radio world ?

I thought that was just part of ham radio. However I have broken in to some QSO’s where people have been talking about things that I actually know about and been rebuked for doing so. Even if I have the correct answer to a question that they are hung up on.

There have been times where the others have looked up my call and when they see that I’m a ‘general lite’ they quit talking to me. They sometimes continue to talk about me but no longer to me.

Back when I got my techplus ticket I was keeping a schedule with a friend in South Dakota on 10M. His folks lived near here and I would send and receive messages from him and his wife to them. We rarely talked about anything important and were usually pretty happy when someone would come in with a topic.

And your point is? ssdd #3365?
EP, you seem to have been weaned on pickle juice.
Maybe you are suffering from a W.C. Handy music
shortage? http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I enjoy it. The more the merrier.

Except when the other station starts talking to a DX station and decides to take over the frequency with zero acknowledgement of the original occupants of the frequency.

So apparently the situation mentioned at the beginning of this thread has varied answers, depending on the individual situation aforementioned by numerous parties ---what did he say ? ---

I don't mind if someone joins in on the QSO .

# What bothers me is if they ask " what are you talking about ?"

# Why not listen for a while before keying up and you won't have to ask that question . http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Amen, brotherman. #I enjoy having somebody join a QSO when they bring something to the table. #But if they show up with nothing to offer or all they do is cough up a "...roger that..., ....I know whachyersayin..., ...I hearya...", without contributing a single cogent thought, get the hell outahere.

I hear this happen a lot on local ragchews. #Somebody "checks in for the count" as if a ragchew is a net. #A ragchew is a discussion, and it can be on any subject under the sun. #The jokers that jump in and say, "Ya'll carry on, I'm checking my email", or "I'm trimming my toenails", blah, blah, blah - and then jump back in every third or fourth go-around - don't have a clue how annoying they are.

My point is, if you jump into an ongoing QSO, you better bring something RELATIVE AND INTELLIGENT to the table or STFU. #If you can't contribute, DON'T BARGE IN and prove you're an idiot.

I have to go along with W5HTW, I thought you were talking about a convoy. I figured it had to do with your CB buddies,so I passed over the topic several times. Were you having trouble with the correct spelling, or was it just being lazy,or maybe just part of the new 21st Century changes that are being brought about. I saw a comment the other day,a guy was talking about avoiding the camo dudes, took me a while to figure out he was trespassing on Posted Federal Military Property and he was trying to avoid the Military Police.
I guess it comes with the territory,if you are not accomplished you must find some thing that will cause you to be noticed, and talking like an ignorant Valley girl will produce that result. It is like a ROCK player,he has no musical talent so he puts on a dramatic farce to get attention,or more recently Mr. Kerry,he has no qualifications to be president so he comes up with being a war hero from 30 years back, hoping no one will remember but will take his word on it.
I think the 20th Century was very productive, maybe even enough to make up for the bad start the 21st Century has gotten off to. #Later "DUDE" # # http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

They don't like Kerry-oka music, either!
BTW, how bad did Ivan treat you in your part of the
state? I have people in Mobile, Montgomery and
Birmingham that got hit pretty bad.

In karaoke you sing lyrics in synch with a tune. In Kerry-oke, you sing to the same tune played backward, negating the lyrics--and hope everybody listening is tone dumb.:)

Heard about 2 women using the 146.880 repeater in Birmingham last Friday night that continously were heckled and bugged by " wolf calls " and other distractions .

Getting to where 2 women can not even use a AMATEUR radio repeater any more without some " lid " harassing them.

But I suppose this and worse goes on most everywhere these days, just not talked about openly.

A bit of bait and some DF ing gear would put a screeching halt to some of it.

VQF.How long have you been a ham? If anyone won't talk to you because you hold the general class ticket i would bet they are the newer 5 wpm no theory extras.

You have no idea how often I confuse myself. I'm ashamed to admit I've reviewed some of my posts only to wonder who put them there. http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/ups/sicdeth/headscratch.gif

Actually the problem seemed to be that I was the 5 WPM general. When they were talking about me and no longer to me that seemed to be the topic of their discussion for a short time then they went back to the same stuff they had been talking about.

I'm pretty sure that the call signs I looked up were listed as extra and advanced. I was not in the section reserved for extras so at least I wasn't out of band for my license.

I’m afraid I really don’t remember when I got my novice ticket. I do remember that I upgraded to tech plus in 1986 just shortly before my daughter was born. I was licensed as a novice for something like 3 years before I upgraded.

Somewhere I still have my original license or a photocopy of it. Can’t seem to put hands on it just now.
