I was watching a soccer (football) game tonight and wandered, this is a game that's played as a national game in most of the countries in the world apart from the USA any ideas why Americans don't play it.
(I'm flame proof)

They(we) do, but it doesn't get the press because there isn't money in it yet, and there isn't money in it because it doesn't get the press. I, for one, am glad of that... U.S. professional sports are no fun, and unsportmanlike.... just look at our olympic basketball, so called, team!

I don't have time for soccer.. Coaching a Little League baseball team and QSOing on 75 meters takes up all my sports related time.. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

Because watching guys kick a ball into a little net while they all wear matching outfits does not sound like my kind of entertainment.

You don't live around here!
Soccer starts with both boys and girls in kindergarten and runs all the way through college. Then there are all sorts of adult leagues and even a couple of professional league teams.
There are soccer fields all over the Dallas suburbs and when there are not scheduled games on them teams are using them for practice. Even open fields in parks become "makeshift" soccer fields.
Soccer just doesn't get the publicity of NFL Football and major league baseball or basketball. But, the interest is definitely showing.

We have soccer mania in this town also and it starts in grade 1. I tell you the mom's and pop's make them attend in all kinds of wx, and we get that also.

Soccer is pretty big here. I don't know what the most popular sport in Atlanta is, probably baseball, but maybe a lot of it has to do with the fact that it's a fairly "European" sport...I don't know for sure. Bike racing isn't as popular as baseball either.
