View Full Version : Republican Senators Slam Bush Admin on Iraq

Senators from both parties accused the Bush administration Wednesday of incompetence in its efforts to rebuild Iraq (news - web sites) and said the United States could lose the war unless it improves security and gets more money into the Iraqi economy.

Among those harshly criticizing the White House at a hearing were the two top Republicans on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee: Chairman Richard Lugar of Indiana and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska

Chuck is nothing more than a moderate and I hear enough about him here in Nebraska.

He acts more left of center than his conservative "exterior." Chuck is nothing more than a McCain wannabe.

Too add... I knew even before I was done with the first sentence to know who one of the Republican Senators were. Mr. Hagel has whinned about going in to Iraq and now whines about the "quagimre" we're in over there.

All he's trying to do is score political points for his supporters and those critical of the Bush administration in Nebraska. It's nothing more than politics to get votes in an election year.

W8EFA

This story is not about one senator. What about Lugars? What about the rest of the Senators? They just named two, but the whole senate foreign relations committee is critical because of the facts that were stated in the story. They just named these two to show it was non-partisan.

i.e. Even Lugar, who is not usually given to strong rhetoric, said the failure to inject funds into the Iraqi economy quickly was "exasperating for anybody looking at this from any vantage point."

This administration is incompetent! They just can't seem to do anything right. How many examples do you need?

What I find interesting about this story is that nowhere is it mentioned how many Senators, aside from the two named, are joining in the criticism. For all we know, it could be just one Democrat Senator joining them (thus allowing USA Today, who provided the story to Yahoo, to say "Senators from both parties...").

Once again, what is not reported is telling. One would think that if the majority of the Senate was rising against the President, USA Today would be reporting that, rather than two Senators that disagree.

And, disagreement within the party is healthy! It shows that people of all views are welcome in the Republican party... even social liberals like Arnold Schwarzenegger are welcome... or was that a body double I saw speaking at the GOP convention? Whereas in the Democratic party, people who disagree, like Zell Miller are all but kicked out.

here is a list of great MODERATES of history... at least, all I could find:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

I am sure they are out there (Indiana, Nebraska), but I could not find ANY GREAT MODERATES.

It is a WELL known fact that ANY member of Congress.. when presented with a TV reporter, a camera, and some lights. will ..like a moth drawn to a bright light.. do WHATEVER it takes to get some 'face time' on the air.

This has been going on ever since politicians haev been around but has never been MORE SO noticed than since 'the age of TV Politics' came into being.

There have been politicians from BOTH sides of the aisle who flit to the TV lights against EVERY adminstration.

For them NOT to do it is fully against their nature.

Just watch them in a panel where they quizz a witness.

They will start by saying something like 'I have a question about.... ' and then they will spend 5-7 minutes pontificating all about THEIR thoughts and ideas and issues about the person/idea/concept/program being quizzed. Then.. somewhere.. they will actually STOP and ask the person to commetn.

Of course.. the QUESTION has been long buried in all the words and usually gets rather short shrift.

So what Lugar and the rest are doing NOW is NOTHING abnormal. BOTH sides do it..

Nothing new. I wouldn't crow too loudly about Lugar or Hagel or any other congress person in front of a TV/RADIO camera/mic spouting off about something the administration is done.

Just remember! THEY live by polls.. they fly by polls.. they flit to the latest light that a poll may cast! Whatever looks good to the home crowd.

W8EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFA....

That's very interesting! You have another candidate for the Prez gig? Who? John Kerry?

No thanks.

You can piss and moan about GWB all you want. Until the Dummycrats can produce a BETTER man for the job, why would I want just a DIFFERENT man for the job who would intruduce (for me, anyway) a whole NEW (and perhaps worse) set of problems?

As long as the left wing of the Dummycrap party is in the driver's seat, I will probably not be interested in any of the Socialists they trot out.

Thank you. Drive through, please.

Liberal! Liberal! Liberal!

That's basically what you're saying.

That's pretty funny when applied to Chuck Hagel, who is right on this issue, but is no liberal.

It's pretty funny to see Republicans "eat their own" when they happen to disagree with administration or party policy.

You conservatives can spin, make excuses, attack personalities etc. The facts are that the money appropriated to rebuild security, infastructure, create jobs, etc. has not been spent because this administration is incompetent and just doesn't get the job done.

Believe me these republican senators are upset - they would never speak up unless they had to, and they had to because the facts speak for themselves. Things are a mess and the Bush administration is not even using the resources made available to them.

All you can do is make excuses. Anyone want to address the facts in this article? No I didn't think so.

EFA, there are 51 Republican Senators in the 108th Congress (the current one).

TWO of these have spoken out against the Bush Administration.

That is approximately four percent of Republican Senators who apparently don't agree with Bush.

Wow! Four whole percent! It is entirely unprecedented for four percent of the Senators to disagree with a President of their party, I bet!

The entire quote in question is:

Quote[/b] ]Among those harshly criticizing the White House at a hearing were the two top Republicans...

In other words, among the Democrats criticizing Bush were two Republicans.

Since only two names are mentioned, we have no reason to assume, as you obviously do, that the rest of those criticizing were Republicans. Given that USA Today would love to report even more Republicans "breaking with the White House," it seems pretty safe to assume that if that had happened, it would have been reported... ergo, it is quite logical to conclude that the two mentioned are the only ones criticizing the White House, absent any evidence to the contrary.

See how it works? It's called logic.

The important issue here is whether or not "Operation Iraqi Freedom" is turning into "Operation Kill All the Infidels" right before the election.

This is not a good situation. I've read reports from all sorts of places in the last two weeks expressing real concerns that the U.S. might be about to experience a serious setback in Iraq. Network TV had some disturbing scenes on it last night - rebel forces working hand-in-hand with the Iraqi police our troops depend on to undermine us. Can you spell "Tet Offensive"?

I sincerely hope that our troops can handle whatever the bad guys are cooking up and can get through all of this. But, unless the entire world press is lying, it really sounds like the situation in both Iraq and Afghanistan have deteriorated seriously, and our troops might be in real trouble.

Well we have amateur radio in common. And an interest in politics.

As your hero Bush said talking about the Democrats (paraphrasing)" we are all Americans with with the same goals in mind, we just have different ideas on how to get there".

I think Thomas Jefferson said something about not letting differences of opinion keeping him from making friends.

But your boy Kerry is going DOWN, just like the Bengals. Sorry to break it to ya.

Man, It's kinda funny to watch you guys argue over which of our candidates is the lesser moron. (and yes, they both are) BOTH sides lie, BOTH sides spin. Both sides are fighting over 30 year old issues while neglecting to seriously address the issues of today. When Bush is allowed to speak freely, without a pre-written speech, he seems on the verge of mental retardation while Kerry....well Kerry is just a jackass..plain and simple.

We want to play world police and waste billions and billions of dolars on useless causes while our own country is going to ####. Our economy, no matter how it's spun, is not in so good a shape. Our own infrastructure is falling apart. Our schools are failing. Our constitution is routinely trampled. I was just watching a news program in which Laura Bush was campaigning in New Jersey. During her speech she was talking about Iraq and how George appreciates the troops, when among the idiotic sign wavers an old woman started yelling a question. I didn't quite get what she was yelling, something about the war....aparently her son was one of the troops who died in Iraq. She was quicly "escorted" outside where she continued to talk to a small group of people, passionatey but peacefully. The police told her she had to leave...this was outside in the street and the people she was speaking to (seemed to be about 20 people or so, going by the camera angle) were listeneng to her...not complaining or getting loud. When she objected and asked why, she was cuffed and arrested. She appeared to be in her fifties or sixties.

Is this what America has become? It makes me sick. Our elected representatives don't represent anyone but themselves. Don't even THINK of asking a question in person....they might actually be put on the spot and have to (gasp) answer the question all by themselves...without a team of advisors no less! (yes I realize Laura is not an elected official, but she was there to represent the president)

Iraq is a mess. Remember Afganistan? Now they want to go into Iran? Billions of dollars go missing from the funds designated for Iraq but hey, who cares, the taxpayer will pick up the slack. The Pentagon can't account for a few trillion dollars? OOPS. Better luck next time. (And no, I won't give you specific references...the news is out there...look for it. Nobody here has a problem with google when they want to rub something in someones face)

I can go on but you all get the point. I don't blame Bush for all of this mess as Congress is as much if not more to blame than him...although anybody who denies him any blame whatsoever is just a fool. Sorry, but that is a sad fact. What is even worse is I think Kerry is just as bad.

Ok, after my long winded rant I have one question for you good people....

Do any of you think we might just get a President into office some day that actually cares for the welfare of THIS country or are we all pretty much screwed?

Based on the premise of the rest of your post, we're screwed.

KC2HJN,
I don't think that is fair.Kerry cares about the Welfare of this country,in fact if he gets in with his Socialist Administration you will see them passing out Welfare on the street corner.Every one working will have wages so high the banks won't be able to hold the money, although the prices of every thing will be too high for anyone to afford to buy anything. With the high cost of living and the additional Taxes there will be a lot of people looking out for Welfare!!
Too bad that Freedom and the Constitution are no longer prime concern in this country, now it is the Cost, that is what people worry about, yet there is little concern about the cost that our troops are paying. Members of the congress ,like Senator Kerry voted down, armored vests ,and HUMM Vee armor to help protect them,I guess it cost too much to provide them what they need. Our National Guard who have been called up are buying Armor plating for their vehicle's out of their OWN pocket. Kerry still picks up his pay check but doesn't even show up on the floor of the Senate anymore, yes tell me how much Congress is Supporting this President and the country in time of WAR.

It does not matter to me how much negative words and phrases you folks print about KERRY or BUSH .

I am still going to vote the way I want to in November, and all of your negative words and phrases will NOT change my mind, and some one elses words and phrases problably will NOT change your mind either.

09-17-2004, 12:50 PM
W8EFA, WX7B..(and other Kerry supporters)

I have started a new thread, just for you two (and other Kerry supporters) Its title is 'BUSH AND KERRY'

It is a place where you can post WHY you LIKE Kerry and what 3 things he has done that are things which drive you to vote FOR him.

(and no.. you can't use 'because he will get Bush outta there!' or any anti-Bush reasons as an answer.)

You have a chance to make a good case for Kerry.

if you do so, then we'll KNOW you are interested in Kerry as a candidate and NOT just 'using' Kerry as a means of bashing Bush in pursuit of your personal hatred/dislike of things Republican/Conservative.

Will you take advantage of it or not? The gauntlet has been cast down.. will you pick it up and honorably accept the challenge?

Your turn.

If they hadn't tanked and sold my favorite player (John Olerud, #5, 1B) to the Yankees, of all teams, I'd still be an M's fan. I love Safeco Field, been there several times (and it's a car trip of several hours from Spokane to Seattle). And, depending on what they do in the off-season, I might just start following the Mariners again. But, yes, I still follow the Giants, and I also follow the Texas Rangers, since the Spokane Indians are a farm team for the Rangers. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
