This entry is taken from the Wisconsin Valley Radio Association's newsletter "The Carrier", which I write and distribute every month.

Wisconsin Valley Radio Association member Rich Nesbitt, N9MO will be setting out on a walk from Marshfield, Wisconsin to Wausau, Wisconsin to raise awareness for Sarcoma. #Sarcoma is a cancer that afflicts the soft tissues and supporting structures (fat, muscle, deep blood vessels, tissues, nerves, bones and cartilage). #Sarcoma makes up 1% of all cancers diagnosed. #N9MO was diagnosed with this cancer in February and has successfully beaten it.

This walk is the second in Nesbitt’s effort to raise awareness about Sarcoma. #For the August 28 walk, the Special Event callsign W4S (Walk 4 Sarcoma) has been applied for and granted. This special event station will be worked mobile from the actual walk route Nesbitt will be taking along with some base station operation after the walk has concluded and during some portions of the walk itself.

Itinerary for the walk (all times are Central):
4:00am start until done (about 7:00pm)
Route of travel:
Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield to McMillan Road
eastbound to Hwy 97
northbound to County Rd P,
eastbound to Hwy 107,
northbound to Hwy 29 or Highland Road,
Eastbound to 72nd Ave,
North to Stewart Ave,
Eastbound to 28th Ave and North to Marshfield Clinic in Wausau.

Plans are in the works for the W4S Special Event Station communications end of the event to be a jointly worked effort. Since Nesbitt is a member of the Wisconsin Valley Radio Association, Rib Mountain Repeater Association and Marshfield Area Amateur Radio Society, plans are in the works to incorporate all three local amateur radio organizations in the working of this event. #N9MO himself will be on the air working the W4S special event station for portions of the event while other fellow hams walk segments of the 45 mile course.

APRS, IRLP, SSB and FM voice communications will be used throughout the walk. #APRS for tracking the progress of the walk, IRLP for contacts along the walk along with SSB, and FM voice on local repeaters to contact local stations for any needed supplies.

How'd it go? Anyone work 'em? I was going to listen, but I spent the day at AA9BB's house putting up antenna's.
