Reading SY's comment about the WAS got me to thinking... if we had QSOs with just the folks that post on the T&O board, how many states would we get QSLs from (assuming everyone QSLs, of course)?

We got WA right here... who else?

Maryland here, Washington County.

I can remember giving one of my original License Plates to a Ham Radio Store owner down in Vienna Va. who was trying to get "Ham Tag WAS". WD9IJO from Illinois went proudly on his wall as the 1st from that state, many years ago !

Have Fun ! 73 from Jim AG3Y ( ex. WD9IJO )

Only problem here in Maryland is that you have to turn in your tags when you get new ones issued ( because of a yearly sticker feature, that is fairly seldom ! )

I still have the other original WD9IJO license plate on the wall of MY ham shack ! ( nope, never giving that one up !

I wonder why that would be. Your info says you are an extra That makes me think should be able to use the portions of the band that are available to all amateurs so it should be easy enough to work anyone you wanted if you felt like it and the bands cooperate.

Or do you already have your WAS and don’t care if anyone else gets one?

One of the locals is working on getting a WAS for each band, he has already done it on the HF bands except for 60M and is nearly complete on 6M. I doubt he will get a WAS on the higher bands but you never know.

I’m not trying to goad you just curious.

Right, that sure looks like the current one with KD7JLM... with that call sign, she would have been licensed just a few months before my original call, perhaps a year at most... I was KD7UKT.

I've looked at the paperwork for the WA ham plates, and you need to send a copy of your license to Olympia, so I am not sure if they would give one to someone with an out-of-state address on the license... but I could be wrong... government bureaucrats sometimes do strange things. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

There are some plate collectors out there that have connections with state DMVs. I see many "error" ham plates show up from time to time always from the same people. I think this plate is probably an "error", ie, the wrong call was put on the plate and discarded.

As to the address on a license, the only thing a DMV employee cares about is the R/O address on the vehicle registration.

That's interesting.

WA ham plates are usually harder to get, which would indicate high fees. You know how it is, hams tend to be cheapskates by nature (myself included). The number of hams in WA is not extremely low either.

Well, up until a few years ago, the registration fees in WA were some of the highest in the nation, but we had a voter revolt against it and got them down to a more reasonable fee level.

You know you're from Pennsylvania if...

1. "Hey yunz guyz!" is a greeting.
2. You get time off of work/school for the entire three-day doe season.
3. One of the highlights of your life was a field trip to Penn's Cave and Horseshoe curve.
4. You know exactly what to do when your mother tells you to "red up" your room.
5. You know the time and location of every "wing night" in a 20 mile radius.

6. You don't think people from Philly or Pittsburgh talk funny.
7. You don't understand all the hype about Rolling Rock beer; you've been drinking it for years even though Iron City is better.
8. You consider an exotic vacation to be a trip to Ocean City, Virginia Beach, or Myrtle Beach.
9. You are over 35 yrs. old, have never been outside of Pennsylvania and don't see any need to leave.
10. You own only three spices: "salt, pepper and Heinz ketchup." (or possibly A-1 and Heinz 57 sauces)

11. You design your children's Halloween costumes to fit over a snow suit.
12. Driving is always better in winter because the potholes are filled with snow.
13. You find 20 degrees just a little chilly.
14. You can recite the four seasons: winter, still winter, almost winter, and construction.
15. Words like "hoagie", "chipped ham", and "pop" actually mean something to you.

16. You can use the phrase "fire-hall wedding reception" and not even bat an eye.
17. You think very little of an Amish buggy on the road.
18. You learned long ago how to "step carefully" around the buggy tie-ups in the supermarket parking lot.
19. You constantly refer to Pennsylvania as "PA". How many other states do that?
20. You can go 2 weeks in winter without sunshine and think this is normal.

21. You know that Blue Ball, Intercourse, Bird-in-Hand, Mars, Venus, and Slippery Rock are all PA towns.

AB3BK,

I know what it is to "red up the room." Did all the time growing up whenever company was coming over. Thing is I'm calling in from Northern Indiana. Must be my family's Amish ancestry. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Well, around here they show Hee-haw on the Discovery Channel, So, I guess, ...Draw your own conclusions http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

As far as the UA / UT game goes... We'll see. I learned a long time ago NOT to poke too much fun at a Texan's team. They tend to put way too much tabasco on the Crow they make you eat http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I heard one of the reasons why the Big 8 broke up and is NOW the Big 12 is because Arkansas did not like playing football with The University of Oklahoma-I guess they just hated losing to OU all the time. (just kidding). Of course, I won't mention the time, back in the early 80's that a group from West (By God) Virginia SPANKED our Okie butts at football-that TOO is another story http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oklahoma-"Native America" checking in.

BTW Roy Clark, of "Hee Haw" is from Oklahoma and has a home near Tulsa.

Yep, he's still around. They named an elementary school after him in Tulsa back a few years #ago and he payed those kids of "Roy Clark Elementary School" a visit. He is a real nice fellow, and extreamly talented.

Of course, there are other BIG entertainers that hail from Oklahoma. But him and Garth Brooks (around the Claremore area) are the ones most local to me.

I JUST found out that a good percentage of my Virginia plates were from EEB. I purchased them on ebay a few years ago. I suspect the plates were part of some bankruptcy auction.

Oh, and checking in from Arvada, Colorado. #KCØLFV in Greeley beat me to Colorado. #Greeley is the home of Colorado State University and one of the best animal research labs in the world. #They LOVE dogs, so I love CSU. #Arvada's distinction is that it's the only major suburb of Denver that has no motels or hotels. #Zero.

Thanks for the comments. It just goes to show you that Sarah and I have nothing better to do with our time! ( I have a major update, over 70 plates, which will go up this weekend).
