This article and series of comments take a dramatic turn on the second page when it becomes clear that the accused, AB9IF, is in fact innocent. What follows is a discussion about the ripoff sales, and then on the second page a realization that AB9IF was actually a victim of Identity Theft.
This should serve as a lesson to everyone that things aren't necessarily how they appear, and, just how easily a lynch-mod mentality can set in before the real facts become known.
Our condolences to the real AB9IF and what happened.
I bid and won a Kenwood TS-450S/AT from James W. Glass AB9IF fon 392.00 before shipping the total was 418.50 and never got a thing except ripped off. He also got some more Hams for the following.

Thanks for the heads-up!
I saw those auction and smelled a rat and did not bid! Phew!! I am very sorry you got hit. Let me try to help you get your money back. First off, if you paid with PayPal with your credit card, you can get your money back. When your credit card statement arrives, call your credit card company and explain the situation to them. They will go through the hoops with Paypal but you will get your money back. If you paid an with available balance in your Paypal account, your SOL. If you paid with a Postal MO, the US Postal Inspectors will get involved. They will put enough fire under his feet that if he actually had the gear and does want to NOT got to jail, he may turn over the gear or make good on a refund. This is what they did to Michael McLaughlin. When they showed up at his front door, he shipped the items to those he ripped of or it was off to a Federal pen for him which is where he is going anyhow in due course. If you sent a personal check, they can still make it uncomfortable for him but you need to start with the US Postal Inspector which it sound like you have already done.
Good luck,

I used availble funds in my Paypal account and Paypal has already said I was SOL. After posting this everyone involved got a form email from Mr. Glass saying his laptop was stolen and it had all his passwords http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif ect ect ect. I think it is all BS including the part that Paypal is now going to refund everyone thier money back. If it was not him who did this scam than how did they know exactly what equipment he has in the photo on QRZ lookup page? I do not think a non ham would know a TS-450 SAT with a cw filter when they looked at a picture. I guess time will tell. All of the auction winners have filed with the FBI on this so he can expect some knocking at his door.
There are tell-tale signs of fraud on eBay that experienced hams know to look for. Stock PICS of gear from websites are a DEAD givaway!!!! If the guy has no PICS of the gear he has, its FRAUD!! Stories like this guy's about a divorce was BS and it smelled of it the more I looked at the ad as each day passed. One ham even retracted his bid cause he got no replies to his repeated emails! Another dead givaway of FRAUD! Too many pieces of hi-line BIG dollar gear is another giveaway and all with no PICS except for the TL-922A which he either does have or he stole the PIC from another auction, another common ploy. All the other stuff up for auction was subtrifuge to throw us off the scent! DON'T let it! If I smell a rat, I will check out the PICS by right clicking on the PICS and seeing where they are stored or doing a search of closed auction and seeing if I can find the PIC. If it's a fraudulent auction and he stole the PIC, chances are he's not very bright or down right lazy and stole the PIC from a recently closed auction and used it in his. This was what a crook in the UK did for months till eBay finally took notice and closed him down each time. That bum got tired and finally gave up.
If you not too sure, I'm around all the time. Email me and I'll be happy to give you my opinion. The best thing you can do to detect fraud is to bid on the item on eBay, then do a request for contact info. Here is the link:
http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?UserInformationRequest
Once you have the Contact info, you can phone the seller and ask questions. If you get a disconnected number or the seller acts hinky, you know from the get-go that the deal is bad and have saved yourself a lot of money!

Good luck with the Postal Inspectors. I was ripped off by David Mobley N7DRM and used a postal money order. The Postal Inspectors could'nt be bothered. Too small of a transaction. Hank K2HJB http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

Aloha All, Here is a copy of the email I got from Mr. Glass I do think he is reading these posts as we all got an email from him about an hour after I posted the first post here.
I sat on the phone with Paypal today trying to sort all of this out, and am still confused, but anyhow of the three valid auctions ( the rest were placed after Laptop stolen) yours is a valid one, I was wondering if you still would like the Item, If not I can let Paypal run its course and your money get refunded, this of course is up to you let me know. Jim
PS no money of this magnitude (18,600) has been sent to my bank accounts someone is feeding you a line, I go through the Paypal Accounts on the website and can see every nickel still in paypal but about 2000 dollars. OF which I will need to contact my local law enforcement, Your Auction was not Interstate trafficking of whatever you said it was a valid auction, the ones after the PC was stolen were the bad ones only the guy couldnt figure out how to get all the money out of the account so Paypal seized it, Moneies that were already assigned to be transferred ! were and will be sent back if you decided not to recieve the radio , if you want it still then let me know soon as I have to call Paypal back and tell them I am shipping it and not to closed your complaint until I can send them the Proof of shipping and a signature receipt this is up to you. As for the rest of it ( other auctions) I did not place them nor did I receive any money from them So paypal will be sorting and returning money I am sure, I am a good person who got in a pickle by auto remembering passwords in win 2000 (make a note of that and dont do it) and then losing my PC I have or Had rather a 78 PErfect Rating with Ebay and over 50 transactions on Paypal that all is gone sigh. I sense alot of anger in your email and I am sorry, I explained to Paypal about getting hate mails and stuff now that I am back online, There is nothing I can do about the situation other than offer you the item since your auction was a valid one or let paypal refund your money when thei! r complaint is done. Let me know soon.
Of course the other auctions where placed within 10 min of mine all are within 10-15 min oe each other http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif still sounds and smell fishy I told him in a reply to this email That I wanted the radio still and it better work too or I will press charges with the FBI who has contacted me already.
Thanks guys

Thats what I plan on doing is waiting a few more days for him to ship the radio. I just got this one from him it still seems he is doing the CYA move as some of the others got replys from him also, He needs to start acting on what he says though.
As i mentioned to someone else, I used to only use listing scripts written in PHP much like auctionwatch.com but mine was a free one from hotscripts.com i had auctions in their and they took them added their own and sent them all in in batch mode. Thus the reason you seen the stock photo I have a sony 73 digital camera i would have sent my own pic had it been me, stock photos are for new dealers i would have never done that. otherwise. when you call them today ask them how much they received from buyers and how much was transferred out the answer should be 17,000 or so and 2000 or so if they say more they are lying and i will take screen shots to prove it of the webpage that shows all their transactions otherwise keep in mind Paypal is being sued for keeping money that didnt belong to them. I have already started on them about refunding money! and will be back on them today when i get in from work. ok talk with you soon.. Jim

E-Bay is good for some but I'm running scared.
My Daughter paid $1700. for some items on e-bay and was ripped off.
The FTC arrested this person but not before she had ripped off many others.
I can't see how e-bay exisits with all the bad publicity.
BTW, David Horowitz {Fight Back} found the FTC listing for me.
Also maybe before buying anything from anyone check with the local BBB??
tHE OTHER AND LAST THING IS IF IT GOES OVER 30 DAYS THE CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND E-BAY WILL NOT HELP.
LET US KNOW HOW IT GOES.
yOU COULD HIRE A HIT MAN!!
tEMPTING---WHAT??
I won the tuner from Jim Glass. #Unfortunately his eBay account had been hijacked and had a list of bogus items added. #Jim has been very cooperative in trying to make things right for the bidders, while trying to go after the people who hacked his account. #Some of us have already received refunds, the rest should follow shortly.

I must apologize to Jim Glass as he is a victim of Identity Theft. His accounts where hacked and he was a victim like the rest of us. I tried to post this yesterday but my computer was sick with a virus and I just got it back going again. Again I do feel sorry for Jim as his good name has been ruined due to this theft and I mus say that I should have waited until I got comformation of this theft before I posted the first post in this thread. Again Jim I apologize. I feel like a real dumb butt for jumping to conclusions and hurting this man more than all the crap he is going through due to the Identity theft.
Again I humble myself
