How many times have you tried to get the rare state of Delaware in your WAS? How about the little sliver of Maryland and Virginia that's cuddled up next to it?
Many Americans (and DXers) say that the Delmarva Peninsula is so rare that is must have no activity. Well they sure are wrong! Amateurs all across the peninsula have joined together to create a informational news webpage called CQ Delmarva (http://www.cqdelmarva.com) to give people all over the world a look into this little piece of land on the Atlantic. CQ Delmarva has updated news, a free monthly newsletter, forums, Buy, Sell, and Trades, and a calendar to keep up with the large amount amateur activity around the area. You can even find out when Delmarva hams will be on certain frequencies so you can catch them when they are on. Check out www.cqdelmarva.com and learn about a place you will definitely want to add to your logbook!

I was able to work W3DOG on June 12, and thrilled to learn his location was Delaware. Hopefully the club will accept my QSL card without a time, I forgot to enter it into the logbook.

I sure do wish I had this info before I left on my trip this weekend! We were unable to find any activity on the Accomac, Princess Anne, Crisfield and Salisbury 2 meter repeaters. Seemed awfully quiet down there in Northampton County! Thanks for this info! I will have it next time I visit "back home". http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

W3DOG is very active on Delmarva. I'm sure they would take the QSL!

I take it by WAS you mean worked all states. I have a question about that if its okay to post it here. What is the proper way to keep up with that, and do you get some kind of certificate or something saying you've worked all the states? Could someone clue me in on this please? I am fairly new and still wanting to learn a little. I am also interested in MARS ARES, and APRS but thats a different subject so I won't go into it on your thread. But if someone could shoot me some links that has some info on the WAS and all I'd appreciate it. You can look me up on here and get my e-mail address, or post them here if its okay. And sorry if this was O/T to much or to long.

And don't forget that little piece of Delaware that is attached directly to New Jersey! Someday I want to go there and operate from the Delaware, NJ state line and not have it be a "wet" line.

I bet it will drive the county hunters nuts for me to be on that county line. :-)

beleive it or not the first station i worked as a novice on
(40)cw was an engineer who worked for du-pount in the
state of deleware.years later some of us local hams went to deleware for vacations and fishing trips, and of
course we took hf radio equipment along so we could hand out the rare state of (de)im going to tell you there
is something strange going on down there, the place is definetly (RF)dead.for the amount of time we spent on the air,we worked very few stations, and we did this more than once.with lousy results.i think it must be all
that sand .caint get a good gound and it absorbs the rf
off the antenna.ironic ,it was the first state and one of the most difficult to work for a lot of hams.
so it goes, keep active and sooner or later you will work them all. gud luck,73.lou.kg3q.

Bring your boots! That area is all marshland. Many people don't even know it exists. They happen to be tourists... http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I am here in Delaware and there's no place we are conected to NJ. The Delaware Memorial Bridge takes us to Jersey and there is a small Island called Pea Patch. Is this what you are referring to? If so that kind of makes sense, maybe someone can explain to me because I have lived here 40 years.

This little patch of land is actually connected to New Jersey. It is marshland, and most of the time it is underwater. It is very close to Pea Patch Isle. If I find a picture of the area, I will send it to you.

My mother-in-law just moved back here after spending about 5 years in Accomac county...we spent many a week up there in Watchapreague!! #Never had much time to any radioing....except listening to the CG VHF channels.

Now that she's moved back, we went up and vacationed on Chincoteague back in May...wonder if I took an HF along next time could I get any activity activating either Chincoteague or Assateague Islands??

Yeah, but now we need a ND and SD net! SD was my last one for my WAS (many years ago). I accomplished my WAS as a Novice and now and trying for personal bests like: WAS on each band (working toward my 5BWAS) and 6meter WAS, RTTY, PSK, SSB, QRP heck even SSTV WAS. I recently got my WAS/90.

And we haven't even talked bout VUCC, DXCC and the others available out there. And folks, it doesn't take a contest to get these, although I'll admit it does help http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

There is alot for one to do with this hobby, only if you want to do something about it.

Yes the DelMarVa peninnsula is a very forgotten part of the US... unless you either lived there or know someone who does http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I grew up in Chincoteague Virginia and whenever i tell people where I am from their reply is "where?" when i mention the island with the ponies their new response is usually "I've heard of that place" 73 & 88 KI4GCX BK
