I'll tell ya one sport I am NOT looking forward to... bicycle racing. Talk about boring... at least in track the runners try to get ahead of each other... in bicycle racing everyone picks a spot till the last lap or two. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

STOCK CAR RACING......Oh, crap. That's not an Olympic sport yet is it? Bummer. Why not, I say? Why not let Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson, Dale Jr., Kevin Harvick, Ryan Newman, and Matt Kenseth go over and kick butt?......seriously, just about any of the track and field events, or swiming events are my favorite.

k6uey...do you wish for there to be two ( 2 ) lists... those with LEGAL and another for ILLEGAL drugs ? It will possibly be a long, long list.
------------------------------------------------
I dont see terrorist striking at the OLYMPICS.. their picture will most likely be taken well BEFORE they get to do any of their " dirty work "...and they dont like their pic taken ( even if they all DO look alike )
Now maybe, just maybe at either ( or both ) of the Democratic or Republican conventions...lots of folks shuffling around, 3 piece suits...heck a suicidal person could wander in and blow him/her self ( women can do this too, no doubt about it ) up and what ever unlucky by standers happen to be nearby. And of course, if it does occur at one of the conventions, the OTHER side will be blamed for it.
But you have to remember the word " terrorists "...it mean terror, destroy, humiliate, harass, intimidate, tear up, ...nothing good
You dont see terrorists building buildings, parks, bridges, etc... their sole goal is DESTROY what ever the folks they are mad at that day/week has that they do not. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

How about softball and baseball?
Track and Field events!!! -- The ORIGINAL Olympic events.
I must admit, personally, to enjoying the pairs figure skating because there is something fascinating about watching the precision required by TWO people to maintain a precise flow and fluidity to music while achieving quite a number of gymnastic movements. And they do it for a rather extended period of time.

I like the classical olympic sports--discus, javelin, archery, vaulting, etc. But I also like the kayaking, and sailing events.
In the classical games, 2300 years ago, there was barefoot race event that involved running through a bed of thorns. The runners were expected to maintain speed while picking the thorns from their feet. OUCH!

Actually, the Olympics have 2 styles of wrestling. International freestyle is related to the wrestling that most of us knew in public schools and colleges in America. Greco-Roman is a variation of freestyle except that in Greco Roman, you cannot use the legs in any way to obtain a fall, and no holds may be taken below the waist. Wrestling is probably one of the most grueling sports there is.

I have a weakness for the Opening Ceremonies... seems like everyone tries to make a big production of it, so it's fun to watch. Plus it's fun to watch the athletes... they are just so damn proud to make it, you can see it in their faces... I wanna see the Synchronized Power Belching Events
followed by the Projectile Hurling with extra points for
color and composition. Flatulating with enough energy
to sustain levitation is also fun, but not easy to take
in the closer seats! And my favorite for the most
sensitive person, Live Slug Spitting competition.
Then for Fear Factor Olympic Style you could see who
could/would jump into a hot tub filled with lime Jell-o
and a nude Janet Reno! And my special event for FT
AAO and MIV: Nude Mud Wrestling between liberals
and conservatives. The winner gets to claim Florida's
Electoral Votes this year. I guess that both side will
need to wear "CHAD PROTECTORS" during competition!
As you can tell, I've been a *REAL FAN* of the Olympics
since they came to my area in 1996!
In all reality, I do fervently hope that the Islamic Terror
Mongers leave these Olympics alone and that the
games can be completed in peace.

From what I hear, Athens has security so tight that even Houdini couldn't get in undetected. And I also understand they have extra security around the Israeli athletes.
On a brighter note, Iraq will have some Olympians in Athens, and without the specter of Uday Hussein over them. I sincerely hope they win at least one gold. It'd be something to see them on top of the medal stand. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Basic physics. Run real hard at the box, stick the sucker in the right spot, hold on, pull as hard as you can as if you're climbing the pole and enjoy the vertical ride. That's the easy part.
Now you gotta kick, turn and push at the apex of your flight. Too early and you get a crossbar on your shins. Too late and you get a crossbar up your wazoo as you come down. Flub any of the above and you get to land off the mat, on one of the crossbar supports or on the nice gentleman calling the order.
If you like to tempt fate and use the soft-side of the pole to your advantage, pray you didn't pick up the wrong pole that's for someone who weighs less than you. That'll usually result in a busted pole and all that energy you hoped was going to send you over the crossbar being sent in various directions -- along with your body and maybe an arm or shoulder bone thrown in for good measure. A friend of mine broke his arm in numerous places on that one and never did vault again.
I vaulted for 3 years and managed to avoid any serious injury. Unfortunately, it's being dropped by more and more schools each year because of the alleged danger. Of course, they have yet to drop football which results in scads more deaths per year than pole vaulting.
I managed 15'6".
At the time I was doing this, Bubka was just a phenomenon and was closing in on the 20' mark.
