T.V. and Film composer, Jerry Goldsmith, died today. If you don’t recognize his name, you certainly have enjoyed his music. Goldsmith wrote the scores to several Star Trek films, Chinatown, Planet of the Apes, L.A. Confidential, The Mummy, Alien, The Omen, Patton, as well as music for T.V. shows such as The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, Dr. Kildare, Ben Casey, The Waltons, plus many many other. He was a true giant in film and music and his silence will echo loudly.

310 movie credits...........the guy was a freakshow! Don't recall ever seeing him interviewed or as a guest on a news or talk show. I guess he was far too busy. He left an amazing legacy.

As a musician, I was an admirer of his work. I was just enjoying "Sum Of All Fears" the other day, and realized that it was his work; I thought it was one of his better scores. He was one of the great film composers, no question. Didn't we just lose Michael Kamen last year too? Jerry had some of the very great movie themes, definitely in the same league with John Williams. The film industry lost a giant today. http://www.qrz.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

I don't recall hearing about Michael Kamen, that is ashame as well. Sorry to hear about Jerry though, he is one of those individuals that people in the business know about, but the general public forgets about, sadly. Hell of a legacy and a good run though. 73.

I have had the fortune to work with his son, Joel. #Joel is also very talented in his own right without being a copy of his dad. #I know living under the shadow of Jerry was difficult. #

Michael Kamen’s passing was also sad, especially at his young age.

I agree. #He was a great one. #But I always kind of wondered if there might have been some professional rivalry between him and Horner--especially in regard to the Star Trek and Clancy movie series.

I seriously doubt there was any rivalry between them. They were of different generations. Williams and Goldsmith were the two super giants. Everybody else was on another level.

Being a pretty big soundtrack buff, I find it very sad to hear about Jerry Goldsmiths death. As someone else said, we still have his music, and he will always be remembered in the work he did.
