View Full Version : WARNING! #Michael T. McLaughlin
This non-Ham has been chased off of QTH.com, eHam and eBay. Here is a link to an article regarding his most recent arrest and involvment involving stolen boat parts in CT: http://www.nhregister.com/site....b=ruros (http://www.nhregister.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=11397764&BRD=1281&PAG=461&dept_id=517515&rfi=8&xb=fecaf&xb=ruros)
His most recent ventures involves a Dual Ameritron AL-1500 that he has been selling to multiple buyers for more than a year now. He will even send unsuspecting buyer PICS of the amp as the amp does exist. I myself almost sent him $3500.00 till I was warned by a dentist in Florida who he had ripped off. Here is how his scam works. He will use eBay, Qth.com or as early as this AM, QRZ.com to harvest emails and phone numbers. He will then sell the amp to as many unsuspecting buyers as possible. When the checks arrive, he cashes them in. When the sellers don't receive anything and complain to the police, he tells the police that the buyer was to cheap and did not send enough money for insured shipping and it must have gotten lost in Parcel Post. Don't get scammed by this crook.

Mike McLaughlin has been a thorn in the side to many hams over the years ... it's good to see that he finally got caught up with.

A quick Google search shows us that he has recently been arrested (http://www.nhregister.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=11397764&BRD=1281&PAG=461&dept_id=517515&rfi=8&xb=fecaf&xb=ruros) for stealing $80,000 worth of electronics from boats.
The link requires free registartion but it is easy.
He is now on eham.com using the screename none991 and the email address lover86@comcast.net selling less expensive ham gear to draw less attention to himself but it's him. I've emailed the website owner but who knows how many unsuspecting hams will send their checks to this crook by the time the ads are pulled and then he will just set up shop under another email addy or on another ham gear swap related website.

It seems that Mark has pulled all the ads from his eham.com site and blocked the email addy that none991 used this go around.

Arthur, I'm going to copy this to Cliff W4NJ. I think he is the most
knowledgable about this person. Unfortunately, it has come to my attention
that this person is a known fraudster. Cliff may be able to give you the
local police dept number & a contact name, so you can add your name to the
list of people he has ripped off. Maybe someone there will eventually do
something about this guy.

Hi Arthur:
I am replying to the email you sent Scott, KA9FOX, regarding Michael Mclauglin in CT. If you paid with a USPS Postal Money Order, then you have a good chance of getting your money back or the power supply if Michael still has it. If you paid with any other Money Order, your pretty much out of luck. If you did pay with a USPS MO, go to the USPS website at www.usps.com and navigate your way to the Postal Police link and make contact with them and file a complaint. They have quite a file on Michael. There is also a contact at the Branford Police Department in CT. The contacts name is Lt. Jeffrey Morgan and his number is 203 315-3914. He has the name and contact info. of another Detective who is more involved in the mail fraud aspects of Michael and he had the Postal Police contact info in his computer.
Good luck,
Cliff - W4NJ
Cliff,
I sent a e-mail Michael Sun. nite and said: Mike or should I say Michael Mclaughlin, I know you live in Branford Ct. and if you do not e-mail me by 9:30 am Monday and send me a tracking #, I am going to fax all the info. I have on you to the US Postal Police and the Bradford Police Dept. So, he answered. Sent me a tracking number. I received my power supply today in good shape. I thank you a bunch!! I live about 16 miles outside of Knoxville, Tn. and if I can ever help you, just let me know!

I have just received a phone call from an Inspector Lambert from The US Postal Police requesting anyone who sent a Postal Money order to Michael McLaughlin at anytime in the past and DID NOT receive the item, who did, to contact him immediately. He can be reached at (203) 294-6776 or email:tlambert@uspis.gov It appears that the U.S. Attorney has finally decided to take an interest as Michael has gone over the $ thershold amount with the $3500.00 Rare Dual Hole Ameritron AL-1500. If he only Michael had sold it once instead on 30 times! Between this and the pending state charges, Michael should be behind bars for a long time to come!

Hope he gets some serious jail time and then has to pay back the debt owed so many.
Michael McLaughlin is now selling AGAIN on eBay after having been shut down three times in the past month using three phony user IDs and just last this week, a stolen credit card to create a phony eBay used ID from a poor guy in Kenosha, WI. His new eBay user ID is 217stufforsale using his girlfriends name and credit card info to create the account. eBay will eventually shut it down but it's him using the same old MO. Build up a good feedback rating to lull everyone into a false sense of security and BAM!! scam as many as he can till eBay shuts him down he and disappears. Don't be taken in guys!! BEWARE guys!!

Here is an unsolicited email I received this afternoon:
Subj: I suggest you contact authorities about Michael McLaughlin
Date: 8/21/2004 4:33:00 PM Eastern Standard Time
From: (Phyllis Wallin)
To: # #henriceh@cs.com
Hello W4NJ,
I was ripped off by Michael McLaughlin in March 2004 for 1350.00 for a boat part he never sent to me from ebay transaction. After several months and every authority in state of Connecticut after him, his attorney sent me the $ 1350. #
I hope he is not back trying to break the law again through the internet because I'm
sure the Branford Connecticut Police would like to know this. Detective Dan Travisano worked on our case. If you suspect Michael McLaughlin, 24 Bayberry Lane, Branford CT of attempting to rip people off I suggest you contact authorities in CT. The best source of help has been Inspector Fitzgerald of the state's Attorney General's office. His phone # is 203 503-6823. His fax # is 203 789-6400. He is very much aware of Michael McLaughlin.
I can confirm that the phone # 203 996-0969 belongs to Michael McLaughlin. This is his cell phone #. When I clicked the email link it had Michael in the screenname so I believe it is him.
